Thanks for the info, Slide. That and her alleged connections with Kerry Diotte (he was at her campaign office) has me leaning more towards Sohi.

I had been a PC all my life Provincially but left the PC party when the UCP bible thumpers and climate change deniers took over. The last thing I would want is to see those types embedded into Edmonton City Council and as Mayor. No Watson for me that is for sure. Sohi is the best option for Edmonton.

COVID has changed everything in our lives. I’ve been consistent from the beginning of my campaign that I will be a leader that brings a fresh perspective, one that will question and challenge the status quo.

I understand that Edmontonians get frustrated when we revisit decisions - I do too - but our economic state has changed and the pandemic has called into question the greatest needs of our city.

In light of this, our decision to continue building the West leg of the Valley LRT needs to be paused.

Here’s why.

An April 2021 Statistics Canada study estimated that a transition to full telework capacity (link: https://lnkd.in/gRwXm82U) could reduce the total number of Edmonton Transit commutes in a year by 43.6%, greatly reducing the demand for public transit after the end of the pandemic.

If #yeg’s transit use falls by even a third of that number it dramatically impacts the financial model which the City has used to justify its transit investments.

I’ve been clear about two things: That I will be accountable to those I serve and that we learn important lessons from others. Cities worldwide are doing similar assessments of their investments.

Edmontonians deserve and expect leadership from their government.

there sure are a lot of us homeless political junkies out there since the party abandoned us (not the other way around).

it will be interesting to see what happens at the next provincial election (i would be quite pleased if the ucp don't elect a single mla) as well as the upcoming municipal one.

in the interim, i have had a sohi sign beside my front sidewalk since the day they were available as i think he possesses all of the attributes it takes to be a really good mayor. i just hope he's not too hamstrung by a disfunctional council.

while i, like any voter, remain open to changing my mind up until i cast my early ballot and while i quite like some of the other candidates personally along with some pieces of some of their platforms, i think sohi is far and away the best choice for what's in his platform, what's in his record, what's in his mind and what's in his heart. he is truly a kind and considerate man and that's something we don't give enough credit to often enough.

i would be reasonably happy with 3 of the 5, happier with 2 of those 3, and thought there was 1 of those 2 that probably earned my vote this evening if we were voting this evening. i will continue to follow all of them until i cast my (early) ballot next week but it looks like o-day'min should have good representation after the 18th of october.

Advanced polls open Monday and I for one will be taking full advantage to ALSO vote Sohi for Mayor. I live in Metis and will probably vote for Cori Longo although there are several good options available now that Caterina is now downtown's problem...

That's a big COULD. And in a year (as in reduced transit use during a pandemic)... or year-over-year? Have not most cities not facing COVID issues like ALberta already getting office and transit use closer to pre-pandemic levels?

That's a fairly elitist statement from Watson. Yes in some office jobs, working from home will become somewhat common. But there are many jobs where telework will not be possible. Health care is obvious. Education as well. Manufacturing too but I imagine most people drive to manufacturing jobs. Retail is not going away anytime soon. A bulk of transit ridership are students and below living wage workers. Also health care workers who want to bypass the exorbitant parking costs.

Office use is nowhere near pre-pandemic levels in any North American city, unfortunately.

Been seeing a lot of Michael Oshry signs popping up. I never did follow him as a counselor, but have been considering him as my vote for mayor. A concern of mine with him is that he seems to be against large scale capital projects such as new rec centers, but for the most part, I like his platform. Anyone have an opinion on him, good or bad, that they'd care to share?
