I wish they would develop mid to high dense buildings around this highway system

^I wish they'd rip it down. It's a really unpleasant entrance to the city.

Not exactly ripping it down... just rebuilding it.

Calgary is still a pretty large city by north american standards.
Calgary east-west is about 20-ish km and 45ish north-south, as the crow flies (that pic is facing east, so you're looking at 10km, which is only slightly longer than Toronto's skyline extends north along Yonge street). Edmonton is pretty much 30km in all directions.

Toronto is 45km north-south in the shorter parts but gets up to about 60 km north-south if you go up Yonge street. East-west is about 100, and then it loops around the lake for another 40km, which is continuous, just not part of the straight line.

Toronto is significantly.larger than any city in Western Canada. In fact the Golden horseshoe, of which 70+% is one contiguous urban area, has only a million less people than all of western Canada combined. All of those people take up a LOT of space.

The ridiculous highways and flyover exchanges are really detrimental to Montreal's skyline, a lot more so than Toronto's Gardiner Expressway. Even if they just got rid of the flyover's somehow, it would look a lot better. Even more so with some medium-density buildings popping up around it.

Even still, Montreal's skyline is definitely in the top 3 for me. So dense.

Yeah, but we did good by making highways and railways dissappear when they come to the centre. So they do not split through.

This photo may have been posted before. One thing here is that you are seeing less and less parking lots. I remember a time when we would look @ the aerials of Montreal and all we complain about is the amount of parking lot there is.

they will destroy everything piece by piece. The interchange will have a new reconfiguration. The Turcot project also includes rebuilding interchanges Angrignon, De La Verendrye and Montreal West, and adjacent sections of Highways 15, 20 and 720.

Les Jardins Windsor is making a huge difference here though !

JW is really out of place.

Though, that whole bottom left of that photo is going to have really great density in a few years, and probably with Griffintown, JW will (hopefully) camouflage.

Don't get me wrong ; I'm not a fan of it aswell. I would have rather see this project in Laval !

I'm just saying that from this view, they're replacing some huge parking lots.
