Calgary east-west is about 20-ish km and 45ish north-south, as the crow flies (that pic is facing east, so you're looking at 10km, which is only slightly longer than Toronto's skyline extends north along Yonge street). Edmonton is pretty much 30km in all directions.
Toronto is 45km north-south in the shorter parts but gets up to about 60 km north-south if you go up Yonge street. East-west is about 100, and then it loops around the lake for another 40km, which is continuous, just not part of the straight line.
Toronto is significantly.larger than any city in Western Canada. In fact the Golden horseshoe, of which 70+% is one contiguous urban area, has only a million less people than all of western Canada combined. All of those people take up a LOT of space.
