While the press club on 14th st may one day disappear, the old DPS administrative building/Art museum offices on Glenarm Pl are not going away anytime soon. It is a historic structure and has been given historic landmark status and currently being renovated. While I would obviously rather to have this hotel than not have and while other cities have similar issues the 14th it is hard to believe that the 14th st side will be a frontage for a future building anytime during the foreseeable future.

Yup... RyanD took that shot from a nice angle. There's a couple of other interesting photos at DenverInfill which show different perspectives, one closer-up which gives a nice feel for what the finished building will look like.

The JW Marriott in Cherry Creek (when viewed from the mall to the south) has a large blank wall like that as well with just a small logo at the top.

And that's obviously a terrible project just like the new Hyatt that was absolutely ruined by a blank wall. Oh wait...

I find blank walls to be rather mesmerizing.

I also see where everybody's favorite hotel property is featured by Ed Sealover in today's DBJ HERE.
Quote:
Downtown Denver's newest hotel is making a special push to target younger professionals and travelers — a fact that may come as less of a surprise when you know that its owners, Jonathan and Krishna Gandhi, are themselves millennials.

Building on a lot that long had been vacant at 15th and Stout streets, the Gandhi brothers wanted to offer a "lifestyle brand" that appealed to travelers in their 20s and 30s, and signed onto the Aloft brand in 2012 when there were just 30 such hotels operating nationwide.
I do think the Aloft is a nice addition to the room mix in downtown even if there's more sex (appeal) in the inside than outside. And when White Lodging builds their next blank walls in downtown at 15th and California Streets, there will also be an AC by Marriott for millennial appeal.

Okay I have a question for you guys,

With White Lodging building the The Hyatt Place/Hyatt House and the proposed Le Meridien/AC Hotel, will these projects prevent the construction of another 800+ room signature hotel by the convention center? Or is there still a high enough demand?

I'm eyeing the parking lot next to Spire...

bunt, do you support this NYT cheerleading of Denver?

It barely mentions bikes in passing.

As for future hotels downtown I've heard Loews mentioned for a high rise hotel in this area, also Hilton which would be part of Block 162 (15th & Welton) if it ever gets off the ground. Both of these could be very large 500+ rooms.

As far as actually announced hotels there is the Le Meridian/AC, the hotel in Z Block (not sure if it's a flag or boutique) and the three in Union Station:Kimpton at 16th & Wewatta, one at 18th & Wewatta and a Hilton Garden Inn at 20th & Chestnut.

And then there's W which originally was going in at 16th & Market. I haven't heard anything about one in Denver but I imagine they are on the radar. Possibly as part of the Market Station redevelopment?

Even stuff that should be cheap based on location, finish, etc. isn't because of sheer demand and lack of inventory. All the townhomes in Jefferson Park should be starter-esque homes but they mostly start at 500k.

Isn't that what you'd expect? Any "starter home" in the city is going to have been built 80 years ago. That's pretty typical in my experience.

That's a really nice video which I hadn't seen before.

Last home sale in that area I happen to be involved in was maybe 3 blocks south of Rky Mtn Lake Park with a nice front porch, a lot of original woodwork, nice sized kitchen with a sun porch and an oversized garage on the ally: ~$93,000. - 1993.

Does anyone know where the skyway bridge is going to be built on the North Metro line? Apparently it's going to be nearly 2 miles long and will be elevated coming out of Union Station. Then it will cross over Brighton Blvd somewhere - though I assume north of I-25.

I'm wondering how and where it's going to snake through RiNo.. or if it will parallel the current DIA tracks.

You can see it highlighted in blue in this video just after it passes under Park Ave, though it looks more like a quarter mile long than 2 miles. I don't believe the North line ever crosses over to the west side of I-25.

Edit: You are probably talking about the skyway bridge section, which is further up the line north of Globeville http://www.rtd-fastracks.com/nm_139
This will also give you a good idea of the bridges http://www.rtd-fastracks.com/media/uploads/nm/Master_Plot-Aerial-11-25-13.pdf

The bridge will start on the NE corner of Riverside Cemetery and go up to 70th and Colorado Blvd.

The very long bridge for North Metro is located north of the NWSS Station. It'll be in the air between about York and 270 (crossing over 270).

There's just small bridges in that first segment out of DUS - nothing major.

Some Lowry residents mad that zoning process works but didn't listen to them whine

Quote:
The board recommended City Council approve an application to rezone a property to allow for a three-story apartment complex.

"So disappointing," one woman said to members of the planning board as she walked out of the room just after 9 p.m. Wednesday.

. . .

The board recommended approval 7-1 with Chris Smith voting against the recommendation.

The developer, Metropolitan Homes, hopes to rezone the property to allow a three-story apartment building that could have more than 100 units on just over 2 acres. The site currently holds the Mt. Gilead Church, an older building that has fallen into disrepair, and is zoned for single-family units.

The issue will now go to Denver City Council to approve or deny the rezoning.

Residents who spoke against the proposed rezoning cited traffic and parking concerns, and the size of the building not being in harmony with the surrounding area.
