Like chemistry laboratory-grade fume hoods? Hilarious.

Would it not be easier (and less smelly) to just have the shitting and pissing take place in an actual bathroom and leave the dance floor to just dancing?

There is absolutely no upside to combining the two.

here's a shot of (?) at granville/nelson. does anyone know what this is going to be? I tried searching for the development permit to see a rendering but can't find one.

Not even touching the issue about licensing, which may by a problem, but it hasn't been all that slow. I would know . . . I've been monitoring since I like it so much .

When the news was first announced and folks talked about it here, the building wasn't nearly finished so I don't think it could have been regarded as imminent, even if it may have sounded that way.

Alto was still well under construction. I'm not even sure it was topped out yet.

I just recall there being some kind of announcement that when the building was finished, Nando's would be one of the retailers.

So seeing how Aldo has just recently finished (is it even occupied yet?), the retail in the building isn't moving all that slow, if they are moving in equipment now.

That's just my guess - nice updraft when you drop 'em.

******

I recall someone saying that it'll be a Joeys.
If they're smart, they'd put their rooftop patio facing Nelson, away from the condos.

Someone should do a map of all of the operating and planned Cactus, Earls, Joeys, Milestones and Moxies downtown.

I would be very curious to see the renderings of this building too. I hope it is something architecturally special. It is on a prime corner of a street on the cusp of a renaissance of sorts. I hope that it is something that anticipates and furthers the new vibe.

Naturally, I am not holding my breath.

i think the location is perfect. the city really should encourage more nightclubs to move right into the financial core somewhere because when they let out at 2am and patrons are drunk and yelling, who's going to hear them? no one..

on another note, there's a Nando's chicken going in the retail at Alto (Davie/Howe). anyone eaten there before? Curious as to what it is.
this calls for a nandos commercial....

But so friggin good too. Anything that features a young woman's cleavage cannot be anything less than awesome. This is a timeless truth.

Speaking of restaurants, anyone know what's happening with the supposed Ki at Shangri-La (top level of podium)? It was originally supposed to open with the hotel in like January 2009, then I heard it was pushed until November, now we're mid way through March and I haven't seen or heard anything. Anybody else?

^ Haven't heard anything. I actually walked through their last night - both spaces are still empty and untouched. Was the plan for Ki to use both spaces, or just one? If just one, has there been talk of what else might go up there?

Ki's website, in case people aren't familiar with it.

The plan was to use both places originally. Around the same time I read (at least I think I did) that they signed a lease for 18,000 sq. ft. on Stephen Ave in Calgary. I don't know where you'd find that much space on Stephen Ave let alone imagine a restaurant that size. Anyways, having heard from friends how wicked Ki is in Toronto (although expensive) , I look forward to it happening sometime here.

Coast Mountain?

Was walking around Metrotown today and noticed that Coast Mountain Sports is in the process of being rebranded Atmosphere. Seems like identical stores, just different names.

I noticed the Hugo Boss store on Hastings is for lease as well, there is a sign on the door telling clients to visit the Oakridge store.

Anybody in the area care to take a picture?

The one in Langley is still apparently 'opening soon'..
