What? That isn't a response to his question...

Does anyone know what the railings on the balconies will be made of? Could be quite expensive to custom make railings to fit the differing curves of each balcony. Also, a more "invisible" railing would improve aesthetics.

i think they'll be poured in place bronze.

i actually think the visibility of the railing will work well with the look of the building... think, MARINA CITY...

An excerpt from a McHugh press release distributed 11/06:

"In many ways, Aqua will be the Marina City of our generation with the way we're taking a totally new direction in using concrete for the exterior," said Dave Alexander, McHugh senior vice president.

There is no repetition whatsoever in the ripples that make up the balconies, which range from zero to 12 feet deep, said Alexander, and McHugh must custom-build all the forms that will cantilever past the edge of the building, with the shapes of the edges custom built. Topping the balconies will be 33,000 linear feet of balcony railing, each one custom measured since no two will be alike."

Is that a white protective film on a few of the windows? Some of the windows look whiter.....Just was wondering. Also, will the concrete columns be visible through the windows, or will they be finished somehow?

Thanks,

Asheesh

The glass looks fabulous to me.

OK, let me rephrase that: I think the glass looks fine. The overall composition is starting to look fabulous, and the dark glazing was a great move.

THE GLASS LOOKS SO GOOD!

Man, this is so good looking I almost actually want to see it painted white! I think that this could be a rare case of the paint making the building look better!

^ and lucky for you, it will be painted white! as evidenced by BVic's earlier posts. I want it painted white, too. I'm not an absolute stickler for plain concrete. but painting concrete shit-tan is a travesty. white? that's different

Wow! This is shaping up nicely.. I think it might be more interesting to not paint the concrete, but I don't particularly care either way.

We're going to get a lot of different colors out of the glass depending on sun angles and where you're standing.
If you're close and the balconies shield the glass from the sky, it's green. If it can reflect the sky it's blue. And of course with the waves, the glass will transition green-blue-green-blue.

It's going to be very interesting to look at.

A little (slightly inaccurate) taste of the future.

I can't stop looking at these pictures. This is now easily my favorite building U/C in the whole world, even above the spire, that is until the spire starts getting cladding and looks even better than this!
