Agree with the comment or not, its his/her opinion. No need for that kind of a comment from a moderator of the forum.

Never said he or she was wrong, just a strange reason to join a forum.

I always saw this building as a big exclamation mark in the West End. Now, without that bit of excitement, the West End will be more boring and homogeneous. The replacement will seem like a comma, just begging for more.
Just a little bit of punctuational thinking on a Friday morning.

Well there are several much taller buildings being proposed or constructed within a few blocks of the Empire Landmark, so regardless of its demolition it would have lost it's exclamation point status either way.

This is true, but I doubt any of those projects will have as colorful and bold crown lighting.

The nighttime skyline will still be seeing a huge loss.

Will actual demolition of the tower commence only after the demolition of the podium has completed?

That's some interesting looking scaffolding those guys are working off of. Safe I'm sure, but still looks sketchy as hell to a guy with height issues

Yeah, I'd be screaming like a little girl if J.T. were in town. (That's still a thing, right?)

How large are those floorplates? They look decently large. Might look really good that is if the glazing is nice and not a bunch of bland spandrel mess

I personally find this heartbreaking to watch especially since I didn't stay at the hotel last time I was in town even though I knew it was going to be closing soon... The worst part is the blandness of the replacement project...

Any time I tall building is replaced with a smaller one I die just a little bit inside... I can't be the only one...

It's a sad statement on architecture today when the loss of this building is considered "heartbreaking". Lol.

How long has this demo been going on so far? Seems like months, and still a ways to go. Makes me wonder what the cost for just the demo is (must be huge), and how the developer can have a competitively priced product and still make a decent profit. Jesus. Prices are so sky high in Downtown Vancouver that tearing down a 42 story building ain't no thang.

It's all speculative. They can set the bar almost as high as they want and people will pay. If there was any reason to indicate that it wouldn't sell out we probably wouldn't be watching it come apart piece by piece.
