AMAZING WORK Henry! I'm sure that took awhile for you to edit!

It's crazy to think that there still are more proposals down in the pipeline AND Rainey Street.

Honestly that photo made my month

You sure do. Nice work!

A couple more big ones and the skyline will rival Dallas. I remember in the late 70s and early 80s when Austin's two biggest downtown were the gold and black buildings. The gold one isn't gold anymore and I think that's the black one tucked behind Frost (I think... I'm not even sure.) Insane.

Thank you txtriathlete! Really appreciate it. I think, even after a couple big ones, the size of our downtown probably won't rival Dallas, which has 11 buildings above 600 ft. But, downtown Dallas doesn't have a river running across it. Just this along gives our smaller downtown a huge plus point in terms of aesthetics and activity options.

That first pic makes me wish we could have highrises stretching all the way to Mopac instead of cutting them off at Lamar.

Maybe that may happen one day. But for now, it's better to fill in and be more dense, than to spread out.

The photo is super zoomed in so everything appears shorter and closer. If the skyline really stretches all the way to Mopac then our skyline would be almost the same size as Chicago.

Exactly! The view would be incredible crossing Lamar north over the river.

Of course, if our city was that big by then, it would probably take an hour and a half to cross Lamar at 3AM sunday morning lol.

We would have a long way to go to match Chicago for skyline width even if we had high rises from Mopac to South Pleasant Valley, a distance of 3 and 3/4 miles. Even if the skyline stretched from Mopac to 183 in East Austin, it would still only be 4 1/2 miles. By comparison, Chicago's lakefront skyline is 12 miles long of continuous high rises, but there are more than that because there are a few more that go all the way to Evanston, a distance of over 18 1/2 miles. By comparison, we'd need to have a continuous skyline of high rises from the Pennybacker Bridge on 360 to the east runway at ABIA. If you took into account their skyline all the way to Evanston, ours would have to stretch from the eastern shoreline of Lake Travis to the east runway of ABIA to match it. Chicago is a monster.

Chicago's skyline would be 12 miles long to Evanston if you take into account even one row of buildings along the lake. But it's obviously not a meaningful comparison to do it that way. I think it's obvious when I say Chicago size, I meant from North Avenue Beach to Grant Park, just the downtown area.

Looks like the line hotel is getting a mural. Wish more of our blank walls (looking at you, Westin) would do the same

That's an accurate observation, the Sail should indeed be just a bit taller than 360, and it doesn't look that way here.

I noticed that it was painted, and I was going to be happy with that. But a mural is awesome!

I thought the original was pretty accurate because of the somewhat significant slope north of the river.

There is a visual slope created by the camera's lens, making the left side tilting to the left. But the Sail in the rendering isn't tall enough to offset that slope.

That line hotel mural was for a SXSW promotion. So it may be going away soon.

Well damn. It's fun! Hopefully they will follow suit with something to replace it!
