Happy December 1st! Christmas is only few weeks away, so to get us in the season spirit, here are some photos I took last year. Christmas time is such a beautiful time in Vancouver!

First few photos of the One Wall Centre lights.

In Westend many people put up beautiful Christmas lights for bypassers and residents nearby to enjoy.

Robson Square ice rink is an annual tradition for many Vancouverites. It is such a beautiful and urban setting to spend some time with your kids.

It has been three years since I last visited the Vancouver Christmas Markets at Queen Elizabeth Theater plaza, so this year it was time to make a comeback.

I still cannot understand how you have to pay to enter the markets as almost all christmas markets in Europe are free to enter. Back in 2012 the entry was $5, but now they are already charging $8 per person, which I find bordering too much. With the ticket you can come and go as many times as you like during the season, but that should be a given...

Inside it is still very nice and it resembles traditional German christmas markets. I lived in Germany for five years, so I know what I mean by that.

There is a lot to see, try and buy.

Lots of the treats are nice, but again very expensive. A simple bun with sausage was $8 which borders a rip-off. I can get a burger combo for that price elsewhere. Also $6 for a single waffle. Our currency cannot be that weak?

Despite the prices, it was very busy on both times I went there (during week and weekend). People seemed to like it and were not in a hurry to leave. The atmosphere at the markets is great which is a big thing.

For young and also old there is also a merry-go-round to enjoy.

I like christmas markets, so it is a bit shame that the one in Vancouver is having such a rip-off pricing for everything. It is also almost excatly the same every year, so I am not in a hurry to go back.

There was also a plan to have something similar in Olympic Village this christmas, but I suppose that didn't materialize. There is also some kind of Winter Wonderland opening at PNE this weekend, which might be worth checking out...

That's a good tip Vin, although those just for one-time entry. Which is perfectly fine for most people and I will keep those sites on mind next time.

Hey, you're right, that it is!! Depends on the building, though. The Blue Horizon has it, yet the building structure IMO looks somehow awkward.
But it's still being used! Doesn't Aviara at Brentwood have mosaic tiling a bit like this or am I wrong?

I love these ones. Bute right? There used to be three in a row. I know you have not lived here for a long time Klazu; these guys have been lit up every season like this for 20, maybe 30 years.

Somewhere in my studio storage, I have a foot square chunk of these tiles (blue) that I got from the BCHydro Bldg conversion. There are buildings hidden all over the City with these. Kind of marks a B.C. Binning era.

Yes, those buildings are on Bute and I have also noticed them getting decorated for every single annual event. It's nice though and the lights are of good taste and not over the top like in some places.

Exactly, I was going to mention just this. They go all out but in a restrained (yes, kind of a contradiction) and tasteful manner. They aren't falling for all the new but hidious Xmas light technologies. They look very close to the way they did decades ago. Its always been a little West End Christmas highlight.

Did a night owl on Cypress Mountain last evening. Amazing conditions with temperatures below 0 degrees and lots of nice light powder snow. Snow line was at around 800 meters and above that it was a winter wonderland. You could definitely tell that they had just received a 75cm dump.

Winter wonderland

Small coulds over the Cypress bowl.

Peak chair is open and snow is terrific.

On top of Mount Stracthan.

I have already taken Wednesday off to go hit some slopes up in Whistler! Weather should be sunny with lots of pow!

Great night skiing on Grouse Mountain last night. I suppose it had been quite a warm day up there during daytime, as snow was spring-like at 5pm, but later in the evening it got drier as the snow froze. No lining up for lifts.
