Now we just need more of these at 20th & Blake/Market. The brick transformer building at 21st & Market would make for an awesome brewery.

State Population Figures are out

Colorado added 83,780 (1.59% - 4th nationally) people from July 2013 to July 2014. Similar to the 2012 to 2013 number (~79K).

Based on recent population trends and building permit data, it’s probably safe to assume that Denver will have added between 12k – 16k people in that same period - bringing it above 660k.

Census Press Release

There is also a thread for it in Highrise Proposals section and a placeholder in the Denver Database Proposed section.

Thanks for the additional information though.
I don't know why I keep missing these posts!! It could be the smog, distraction of supertall construction or sheer huge scale of city I'm experiencing right now. Greetings from the west and 80 degree weather!

A building permit application has been submitted for the dual brand hotel at 15th and California. It looks like the brands will be Le Meridien and AC. The Starwood Hotels website shows it opening in July 2017.

Most excellent. 15th is certainly starting to get a much-needed makeover.

Is this the corner with the little urban garden on it now? I thought this was the site of the anticipated Target location.. ? Would that still be in play?

No. This is the surface parking lot next to Bubba Gump.

Hey gang, first time poster on this blog but a big fan read it all the time. I am wondering if anyone has information about the construction fencing going up along Bannock and 12th in the Golden Triangle?

I know obviously about the Eviva Cherokee going up along Cherokee behind Cap City but the other construction fencing is a mystery to me? Anyone know anything or care to elaborate?

Thanks!

That is an odd partnership, Le Meridien is Starwood, but isn't AC partnered with Marriott? I love me some Le Meridien. Many a night spent at the one in Amman.

I believe you are referring to the Kirkland Museum site.

It sounds like this is likely the new Kirkland Museum. http://denverinfill.com/blog/2014/12/golden-triangle-kirkland-museum-update-1.html Good to know work may be close to starting!

edit: DenverPoke beat me to it.

Nice find! Not sure how well that is going to age but it is better than the Hyatts going up on 14th.

I'm glad this block is filling up. How awesome would it be if a Marriott Marquis caliber hotel were developed on the other side of the Bubba Gump building?

Well there goes my fantasy project (LOL) but as urbanAcheiver pointed out the land across from the Convention Center is still ripe.

I did suggest that an AC would work well on 15th Street. It is part of Marriott's millennial friendly strategy. Here's a link/look at the AC. Denver will be an early adapter for getting an AC. Kinda cool.
It does seem odd though. Isn't the idea with dual branding to share check-in and out space? I'll be curious to see how they do this?

And TakeFive: How is your day to be?
Peaceful

For the first time in forever my son's grandparents aren't holding their family celebration. They just no longer have the strength; just too much for them. Consequently his mom and I and Jeremy of course and his 3 1/2 month old puppy had our visit - meal - gift exchange Tuesday evening. For the Grandparents it's a special opportunity to spend some time with their busy grandson.

For today it's a blog post or two, phone call or two and email greeting or two. Mom will attend to the grandparents as other family stop by at their leisure. The plan is to take in a movie pending whether Jeremy goes and when he gets back from snowboarding or not. For sedentary pleasure the NBA games start at 10:00 am (Mtn time) and finish about 10:30 pm.
Perhaps a nice long walk will be nice.

Surprise - Not
Ken has ALL the answers of course:
Quote:
Not only does this development bring two new prominent international/urban-oriented hotel brands to Downtown Denver, but it also represents the first example in the area of a single project that mixes brands from two different hotel flags. The dual-brand hotel concept is a cost-effective way to add new hotel properties to the downtown market.... it allows for the sharing of amenities like fitness centers, pools, and meeting rooms. Separate registration areas and signage help maintain the brand distinctions within the building.

The new hotel tower will rise 20 stories, with the Le Meridien lobby facing California Street and the AC lobby facing 15th Street.
Ken also points out that there will be a total of 480 rooms "with 272 rooms for Le Meridien and 208 rooms for AC."

Oh, and Takefive I know it can happen when you get older but try not to make a habit of talking to yourself too much.
Roger That.

Eco-Devo Calamity?

Cathy Proctor has a good article in the DBJ HERE.
"Low oil prices and Denver’s downtown office market: What lies ahead?"
Quote:
Albanese said he took a look at Denver's energy-related real estate market after getting questions every day — both internally and from clients around the country — about whether Denver is facing another major energy bust, akin to the 1980s when downtown was rife with empty office space after a building spree.
The short answer is NO as Denver's economy is much more diversified now. The article is very good and I'd suggest reading it.
Quote:
Experts say they don't expect oil prices to return to the $100-per-barrel mark for years.
How many times have heard "experts" claim this or that and end up being not even close but who knows? Nobody really.

The article as might be expected paints a mostly rosy picture. I'd agree for the most part but unspoken is how much this might dampen otherwise expected continued growth. The article does point out there could be some consolidation in the Oil Patch.

No, I wouldn't be concerned about the Hines project on 15th but this could impact other would-be office projects going forward.
