Thanks for the updates Urbannizer. The Castilian looks like a brand new building.

By my count there are at least 27 tower cranes currently scattered around Downtown. University of Texas projects account for over 1/2 of them:

U.T. Dell Medical Center - 8
U.T. School of Engineering - 2
U.T. Rowling Hall Business School - 2
U.T. System Headquarters - 2
Seaholm Development Site - 2
Green Water Development Site - 3
Millennium Rainey Apartments - 2
Fairmont Hotel - 1
Hotel Indigo - 1
Aspen Heights Apartments - 1
5th & Colorado Offices - 1
East Side Village Apartments -1
University House Apartments - 1

Total = 27

It is pretty amazing & creative for what looks like a minimal cost update. Certainly not like the radical change of the Dobie facade back in the day, but it appears to have achieved the goal of updating the look of a very dated building. Wonder what the same firm might be able to do with Jester.

You don't want to know. But if you insist just insert your finger as far down your throat as possible.

Me either. It is a generic late 1970s highrise. We all just got used to looking at it, so the new color scheme seems like a big deal. It is what it is. I guess if Goodall-Wooten can last this long, The Castillian will be around for a good while longer dressed in blue/grey for now.

I don't mind this one either. Its deep on the drag surrounded by ut students and ut minded businesses. It kind of looks like a party house. And the balconies have a great view of the drag. I do think the blank walls could use a good mural. For packing in as many students as possible without worrying about building materials or design, this
is minimalism at its best...or worst if it wasn't where it is. Out on its own as opposed to being tucked away on the drag, it would look far worse.

I remember when Goody Woo first opened around 1962 or 1963. It was the shizzle. Everybody wanted to live there.

True to that, for the longest time The Castillian was an eyesore. But glad they went all out.

This filing from today is for the Town Lake Holiday Inn. The attachment mentions interior remodeling and facade work. The facade could use an update, but I can't tell from the permit if they're going all Castillian or just fixing some cracks.

Ha! I was just tinkering with a photo of that Holiday Inn last week. I think it would look cool with green led/neon light bars on the facade vertically between the windows, as well as outlining the crown.
