If you think the British press is hard on others, you should see what it's like living there! Moaning is a British failing I'm afraid.

Vancouver must have a lot more British people than I thought.

Not so sure the London Games will be bigger. Remember, a city that size has the capability to absorb a few hundred thousand and not blink.

These games have literally taken over the entire downtown of the city.

The Torino games will be cool if you're in the Olympic area, but it's a purpose built-park, so more of an Expo atmosphere. At least that's the impression that I got when I went to Sochi house and saw their scale model.

The London games will also be centered around an Olympic park. It will depend on if they centralize the event areas.

Vancouver's situation is interesting because they've done it so that you practically have to go downtown for everything. The Victory Ceremonies, the Broadcast centre, LiveCity Yaletown, the unaccredited Media centre.

CTV is broadcasting on the street. Many venues are all one skytrain line away from downtown... etc.

Record crowds hit Vancouver's streets
Partiers asked to have fun responsibly

Sonia Aslam Feb 20, 2010 18:20:05 PM

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The VPD states there were an unprecedented number of people on the streets Friday night, well above 150-thousand. Constable Lindsey Houghton adds despite the numbers everyone was pretty well behaved. "We've always said we are cautiously optimistic that crime rates will drop and we are seeing that trending downward right now."

To handle the larger crowds 7,000 officers from around the country will be patrolling our streets.
Houghton adds they are asking people to leave all alcohol at home before hitting the party scene. "There are a ton of great restaurants and pubs and places to go and experience the night life of Vancouver where you don't need or have to bring liquor into the downtown core. Pouring your mickey into the cup with your coke certainly doesn't fool us."

What Nation houses have the longest line ups? A guy I work with went to the Irish house last night. He looked like he had a great night; since when he came into work this afternoon he was still very slowly recovering...
