Purchase of the Barry Hotel -- City Council will receive a report from Administration recommending that the City of Saskatoon purchase the Barry Hotel. Due to the potential revitalization of this site to anchor the Riversdale business district, the City has negotiated a sale agreement, subject to City Council approval. The proposed purchase price is $800,000, with the City taking possession after all conditions have been met, on April 30, 2008.
Direct Sale of Parcel “A” River Landing Phase II -- City Council will receive a report from Administration recommending that Administration negotiate the direct sale of Parcel “A” (Avenue C and 19th Street, across from the Farmers’ Market) to the Prairie Ecovillage Development Corporation (PEDCO) for Council approval. PEDCO proposes to build an ecovillage, which is a mixed-use development allowing residents “to live more lightly on the earth.” Their business plan outlines a 65-unit residential LEED Platinum ecovillage at River Landing Phase II. The development incorporates affordable housing opportunities, commercial space, live-work opportunities, three-season gardening spaces, and public demonstration features.
