well since there is no news right now i decided to put in some panorama of sakatoon on here. the first two are mine. i still need to work on but they are my first 2 ever. the next 2 i believe someone on this forum made and the last one i have no clue who made it.

Spotted this ad for the Rumley Lofts in Saturday's SP:

It didn't scan great but the rendering on the right is clear enough to show that there will be no additional floor added. I'm assuming that in the rendering we're looking at the east side of the building because on the left side there is what appears to be the balconies we've already discussed which are being added onto the south side.

oh and by the way jolepiecowye, those panos look pretty good for your first 2 ever. I've done a few myself on my camera and it can be frustrating when back at home on the computer you stitch the pics together and it just doesnt turn out..

is it just me or does it look like they are adding a small part on the south side before the balconies. i am not saying i am right but after the points the old building just ends like the north side in the picture.

I am so happy to hear that the roof addition was just a rumor. Just couldn't imagine another floor. Thank you Country for posting the ad and clearing this up. Have to agree we are looking at the east view. I managed to find one with a bit better quality which is posted below. Also Country thanx for the Eaton Loft link. Its great to see some interior shots. A great looking project.

I also took a bit of time to enlarge the Rumley rendering because joelpiecowye brings up a good point, there does appear do be a south addition. After checking my photos on a previous post it looks like this might be possible. Looks like balcony's plus maybe floor to ceiling windows on the addition. Good catch joelpiecowye and loved your panos. I don't have the guts to try one yet.

Went to an open house to the Eaton Lofts on Avenue D this past weekend. Very urban design and the ceiling hights are really impressive. However, the floor was REALLY 'wonky'! It was all over the place in terms of being very uneven. When mentioned to the agent on hand, she claimed it was her understanding they did the best they could to level floors and that this just adds to the "character". I'm all for character, but if your furniture can't sit level on your floors, that may be a problem! Overall though, I was quite impressed with the development...just wish they could get rid of those bus barns and clean up the area a bit. The agent said there are other developments planned adjacent to the building (townhomes and coachhouses), so we will have to keep an eye on that.

Purchase of the Barry Hotel -- City Council will receive a report from Administration recommending that the City of Saskatoon purchase the Barry Hotel. Due to the potential revitalization of this site to anchor the Riversdale business district, the City has negotiated a sale agreement, subject to City Council approval. The proposed purchase price is $800,000, with the City taking possession after all conditions have been met, on April 30, 2008.

Direct Sale of Parcel “A” River Landing Phase II -- City Council will receive a report from Administration recommending that Administration negotiate the direct sale of Parcel “A” (Avenue C and 19th Street, across from the Farmers’ Market) to the Prairie Ecovillage Development Corporation (PEDCO) for Council approval. PEDCO proposes to build an ecovillage, which is a mixed-use development allowing residents “to live more lightly on the earth.” Their business plan outlines a 65-unit residential LEED Platinum ecovillage at River Landing Phase II. The development incorporates affordable housing opportunities, commercial space, live-work opportunities, three-season gardening spaces, and public demonstration features.

Thank-you for posting molasses these are two pieces of excellent news for Riversdale and Saskatoon in general.

Previously it has been discussed on this forum that the continued revitalization of Riversdale/20th Street hinges on what happens with the Barry. We've also discussed possible uses of the building and council will no doubt be throwing around a few of their own ideas. Ultimately, the Barry needs to be re-used in a way that makes it a fitting anchor for the area- as a cultural centre, attraction, public space, etc. I envision a role for the Barry that is connected to River Landing and is a means of drawing River Landing further "inland" to tie up Riversdale/20th and RL Phase II as a more unified district.

This ecovillage, if built, will certainly help to achieve that. I hope to see continued infill between 20th and River Landing: along Avenues A, B and C and along 19th Street that will improve the area and create a desirable district that doesn't just STOP outside of River Landing or right off 20th Street.

Awesome

Just heard about this on CTV.

I expect quick approval from council, no concerning issues...65 townhouses, $120 million cost of development...IIRC 10 or 14 commercial spaces...energy efficiency and conservation (solar energy/heating)...Senior City Planner Chris Dekker stated the eco-village is a "self-sustaining" concept...PEDCO hopes for a Spring start up.

Some Meridian related info:

Suites in the KG will range from 1200 to 2000 sq ft, starting at $500k.

The MOB, originally planned at 17-18 stories, was scaled back to 12 because cranes of that size are not available in SK, and the price was too high to get one here. The 12 story tower was canceled because the soil at that location could not support the structure. The plan is now for a 6 story condo with construction likely to start in spring 2008.

Other news/rumors:

The former Extra Foods on Central Ave has been sold and is for lease. The rumor is that the owners would like to put condos there.

The former Burger King on 8th street will become an Original Joe's, a chain of generic pub/restaurants, there are a few in Edmonton (and Calgary?).

Interesting. I wonder why they stated costs as the reason when the project was originally scaled back then again when it was cancelled. No matter. As fun as it is to have taller buildings, six stories is probably a more suitable scale for that site. I look forward to the unveiling of the plans.

Walking to work this morning, I noticed a sold sign had been placed on the Adilman building (the old department store at the corner of 20th and Avenue B)....any one heard anything about what might be happening there? It's a pretty nice old building, it would be great to see someone making good use of it.
