Wait for It - Should be exciting
You'll have to wait until tomorrow according to Kathy Proctor in the DBJ HERE.
Quote:
Leaders of the National Western Stock Show and city officials on Thursday will roll out a long-awaited draft master plan for transforming the 95-acre complex into a new "National Western Center" that would attract visitors and business people from around the world and bustle with activities year-round.

The group also is slated to provide "key recommendations" to strengthen tourism in the city "by creating a unique hub" for new year-round programming.

This was posted in the transit thread, but since this is our main go-to, I figured I'd post it here. It's the newest work I've done with DDP. Hope you all enjoy! Yay transit!

Thank you. Hopefully more people will see it here.

However, even if you see it here, please take discussion of that graphic to the transportation thread. Here's a handy link!

If you chain yourself to a tree, you can totally borrow my Community Forester vest and badge.

Someone may have said this already, but the old post office in Cherry Creek on Columbine is no longer. Went by there today to check out all the construction and it was gone.

Panasonic announced it will open up an office near 61st and Pena. DBJ believes this to be the unidentified company for that incentive.

Ed Sealover has the story in the DBJ HERE.

Colorado seems like an outlier compared the other states being considered. Something must intrigue them enough to warrant serious consideration.
"Ken Lund, executive director of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade" states:

Thanks to buzzfeed.com

Even the Honorable Mayor of Denver is getting involved. From the same article linked above:

That's the site of 245 Columbine, a 7 story boutique hotel with restaurant/retail space.

A new technology and solar energy offshoot of Panasonic Corp. of North America plans to make its home base at a 400-acre development near Denver International Airport, anchoring an environmentally-sustainable project and employing as many as 400 at the site.

...

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said the decision to base the hub at the future 61st and Pena Boulevard RTD commuter-rail stop could be "the biggest economic win for the region in years,"
One worker per acre? Tell me that's just a small component of the larger development, and this was just poorly written. Otherwise, great economic development win, but the worst example of TOD proposed in the history of TOD.

It is a small component of a larger development by Fulenwider. Panasonic hopes to be part of a true mixed-use project. A better read is the Denver Post article.

A building permit application has been submitted for a new apartment building at 1615 Pennsylvania. The last I heard about this project (about two years ago) it was planned as a 6-story senior housing project.

Additionally, I had a chance to see the construction drawings for 1144 15th St. The final height of the tower will be 608'. So a little shorter than originally discussed, but it will still be the 5th tallest in the City.

Sweet! Is it still looking similar to this?

Ghetto but it works and gets the point accross. (I prioritized roof height over spire height).

From the linked DBJ article:
Quote:
The company looked at 22 U.S. cities and found Denver best suited for its technology and the environmental sustainability it wants to pursue, Doyle said.

Those factors, proximity to DIA, the incentives, and the local officials welcoming the company made Denver rise above the other cities.
I'll Take It; A Win is a Win
That said, it reminds a bit of the big GE solar deal announcement from a few years ago that never came to fruition. But even if speculative, "nothing ventured, nothing gained."
I'm sure we all wish them great success.

bunt_q... You want nice TOD? The Plan for the Pena Boulevard Station looks decent to me.

The base (beige part) is slightly different, but from there up is exactly the same.

Ryan got promoted, officially! I think we need a forum drinking session to celebrate. Of course, he can no longer attend meets. It's not smart to socialize with one's superiors.

"National Western Stock Show would get extreme makeover under redevelopment plan"
Such an enticing headline from the DBJ article by Cathy Proctor HERE.
Quote:
City leaders on Thursday rolled out a long-awaited master plan for the north Denver site near Brighton Boulevard and Interstate 70

The plan calls for the stock show's 95-acre complex and the city's 30-acre Coliseum to be transformed into a 270-acre "National Western Center" with most of the existing stock show structures, such as the Hall of Education and the horse-focused events center, replaced with new buildings.
Is it possible that this is being met with a big collective yawn? Terrific vision and Big Public Works project but this looks to be one tough nut to crack. The early cost guesstimate of $500 million is still the starting point.

Makes one wonder if the original idea of moving/building a whole new facility out by DIA wasn't more realistic?

Still the plan, just 5 stories.
