Thanks to denver.cbslocal.com

This is a Big Deal; Denver needed this.

"The biggest disadvantage Saint Joe's has had for years is [that it's] an old, tired facility," Farris said. "And that disadvantage goes away Saturday."
from the article by Ed Sealover in the DBJ. I trust that this JOA works better than the one between the Rocky and The Denver Post.

Colorado's Got Game

"Colorado offers biggest incentive in state history to company considering 1,000-job facility"
Ed Sealover has the story in the DBJ HERE.
Quote:
The media/entertainment/communications company is looking to invest some $30 million in the facility and is considering two locations in Florida as well as one each in Colorado, Arkansas and Missouri, said Sam Bailey, corporate development manager. Colorado is at a disadvantage when it comes to labor costs in the competing states but could offset that with the incentives, he added.
Colorado seems like an outlier compared the other states being considered. Something must intrigue them enough to warrant serious consideration.
"Ken Lund, executive director of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade" states:
Quote:
"From a prospect pipeline, we're starting to see much bigger projects, scaled in the 1,000- or 1,500-jobs range," he said. "We haven't had those before."
Thanks to buzzfeed.com

Even the Honorable Mayor of Denver is getting involved. From the same article linked above:
Quote:
It also offered $1.5 million in strategic-fund payments to an unnamed, publicly traded digital-products company considering locating a new division in Denver that would represent the company's biggest U.S. presence in any city outside of its headquarters. The company would create about 330 jobs at an average wage of $89,554, Bailey said. Lund added that Denver Mayor Michael Hancock has been involved personally in trying to land the division of the Fortune 500 company. Denver's Office of Economic Development also would provide matching funding to the firm as well.

Here is the latest, and I think final, design for the Country Club Towers project. The overall height has dropped a little to 312 feet from 322, but both towers are still 30 stories:

Wasn't that approved/funded decades ago, like the 1970's? (I kid) but this has been in the works for some time has it not?

Speaking of helping Denver "Grow"
Kathleen LaVine, DBJ, has a video summary of the (paid) Cover Story about Paige Fiji's new banking venture HERE.
Quote:
Her daughter Charlotte, 8, benefits from a strain called Charlotte's Web (her namesake) and Figi would like to make it available to all similarly sick children.
And in a related story, assuming you have a heartbeat this one can't help but tug at your heart strings a wee bit.

But he was after a very specific strain of the plant -- something called Charlotte's Web. It was only available in Colorado.

"We were at the end of our rope. We were on the pharmaceutical merry-go-round with failed drug after failed drug...none of them worked. Cannabis worked," said Holyoak.

Every Tom, Dick, and Harry seems to be getting into the CBD realm. There's a lot of money to be made off of parents desperate to treat their children and the frustration due to the shortfalls of the current pharmaceutical treatments for seizures.

Another new adaptive reuse project in RiNo.
According to the DBJ:
Quote:
Denver real estate developer Kenneth Wolf and restaurateur Jeff Osaka will open a food emporium next year at 2669 Larimer St. called The Market at the H.H. Tammen Building. The 12,000-foot-space has room for 13 vendors, and draws its name from the building's longtime home as the office of the H.H. Tammen Curio Co

Rendering for the new apartments at 28th and Vallejo. Looks like the image is from 28th St. This development is supposed to consist of three buildings- one five story building and two three story buildings. I am a little confused because the rending shows a six and four story building. However, the image is from the developer's website so I am guessing it has to be fairly accurate.

I love not checking this site for 2 days and then seeing good news posted:

1. Adaptive Re-use in RiNo (which is awesome!)
2. New National Jewish Health-Saint Joseph Hospital opening up (great news)
3. Apartments at 28th and Vallejo (nice pool)
4. Country Club Towers (density!!)
5. Crane up at Denargo (fill in those empty lots!)
6. Possible Fortune 500 re-location (or branch) moving to Denver! Not sure why the Mayor would be involved if the decision is to locate in Arapahoe County.

But all interesting and positive developments..

The company looking to expand in Arapahoe County is a different one. That's a telecom that would add 1000 jobs.

A separate deal involving the state and Denver is this (from the DBJ):

It (state) also offered $1.5 million in strategic-fund payments to an unnamed, publicly traded digital-products company considering locating a new division in Denver that would represent the company's biggest U.S. presence in any city outside of its headquarters. The company would create about 330 jobs at an average wage of $89,554, Bailey said. I think that might be from 27th since there is a curve in the street. That would seem to indicate that they will bulldoze a fairly not insignificant building. Although I'm not too sure it will be missed.

Rendering of the new Kirkland Museum at 12th and Bannock. There is curly construction fencing around the building at the site that need to be demoed. If both this and Eviva get going, then there is going to be a lot of construction going on on this block.

The site at 28th and Vallejo has equipment and a trailer staged on it within the past few days.

It is great to see that rendering; I don't think I'd ever seen one on here. The zoning is 5 stories on the curved lot with the old USA Today building, and 3 stories on the two parking lots.

Many sites claim it, but this site will have arguably the best views in the Lower Highland district.

Wicked inversion layer. The air looks really bad this winter there. I've noticed a lot of smog in the pics. How has it been?

Much nicer than I imagined from the B&W elevations. Looks like it is almost completely wrapped with retail on the ground floor.

Big improvement to a once pedestrian unfriendly block.
