In terms of bait and switch this one is right up there, but I’d argue in terms of looks it’s still waaay better than 1960 scott or trinity rideau/chapel. Dark brick is horrible.

I just find the Marriot to be such a heartbreaker because of how EASY it would have been to make it nice. Everything in the render is there, but made out of Wish.com components. There's no fundamental difference in form, just in materials.

For sure, the Marriott is nothing like what we expected. I was hoping for high quality like the AC in Montreal. That said, ignoring my prior knowledge of the project or developer, it's not terrible. They tried something to make it visually interesting. It's not your typical charchwhite. It's certainly different from any other building in Ottawa.

IMO, 1960 Scott isn't an architectural masterpiece, but very basic and plain.

The Marriott on the other hand, with the teal panels, the cheap faux brick panels and that multi-coloured tetris back wall just looks messy.

Its hard to see on the picture but they've started installing the windows that are stepped back from the wall for the remaining portion. It does make the facade more interesting rather.

Imo this is still miles better than The story of Rideau. Other than the terrible blank wall, this is nearly on par with most Ottawa projects.

It's box in the sky. Not much else to say about it, other than it's good to have more hotels in Ottawa, as they have been lacking in supply...or that it is at least better looking than the new tower on Scott street that was mentioned above...

Agreed. It's not what was promised, but it's not terrible. Certainly different from what we've seen in the past.

It's not too bad here on Rideau amongst a dozen of other massive, wall to wall towers, but I do worry about the quality of the Moxy and Renaissance, which will be far more prominent.

Not as nice as the renderings, but better than I feared as it was going up.

Inserting that the side "windows" are blank half way up, with the other half with actual windows. Different distribution of the allowed fenestration near the lot line?

The amount of spandrel on that front and left side and that butt ugly jenga backside are what ruins it for me.

I wish that "glass" portion was actual floor to ceiling glass, a-la Met.

Just like, make the spandrels frigging dark to match the windows. What the hell is the problem with people.

Ugly building after ugly building....this could actually be Ottawa's claim to fame. "Come see the city of ugly buildings!" Hideous architecture as a tourist attraction! It would attract millions! We would finally be world class in something!

Between Envie Rideau's great blank walls (with a random green panel), the wacky and wild CharcWhite patterns of Royale, the black stained precast of Claridge Plaza and this monstrosity, this stretch of Rideau has become a travesty. An architectural disaster.

The Cumberland to King Edward block in particular is terrible. Wall to wall 27-29 storey towers. No doubt the remaining parking lot will be another back-to-back twin towers shoulder to shoulder with the others. It's laterally Kowloon Walled City. I imagine that towers with one or two entire facades of just blank wall, that must limit the number of potential multi bedroom family units.

Agreed but I don't think that is what is limiting the potential multi bedroom family units. Have you been in the market recently?
