Masonville is doing very well!

New Retailers this year:

Forever 21 (2 floor store)
Apple
Victoria Secret (Opens Nov 15)
Express (also planning to open next year)

Apparently they are also building a 5 Guys somewhere on Masonville Parking lot or the old Blockbuster location.

Now only if Coach would relocated to Masonville and leave White Oaks (not sure why it wouldnt locate in the higher end mall in the first place).

It is perplexing why so many outlets have chosen White Oaks over the demographically-advantageous Masonville. Probably due to proximity to the 401, but what draw is London, retailwise, except maybe to St Thomas folk and those inhabiting a handful of other middling towns? I sure am glad that the Apple Store opened in Masonville (something for me to do while the wife buys crap for the kids). Yeah, I am a Mac fan, so what? After decades of being beholden to the SoftMicro/PieceofCrap duopoly, I found something that is better. Except when I am crunching huge datasets, which I do at work on my PC.

My guess is that it was a strategic closure rather than a question of profitability. The supermarket chains don't seem to like operating smaller stores, even if they have lots of customers. Just look at the attempt to close Valu-Mart in Wortley Village.

I got it from reddit and credited it as such. You got beef with the person who submitted it there

I remeber when I was a kid, Westmount was THE mall in the city. The battle was always between White Oaks and Westmount {except downtown/Wellington Square} for dominance.

Cherryhill will always do well as it doesn't rely on any commuter traffic but just the very local seniors and Western students...........it's got a captive market and many in the whole Cherryhill area don't have cars.

I think London will be eventually be reduced to a few malls .......Masonville, WhiteOaks, Cherryhill, and, wait for it, Arglye. WO & Masonville have a complete dominance and really don't compete with each other as they are on totally opposite sides of the city and have different demographics. In reality Masonville's biggest competito is not a mall but Richmond Row. Cherryhill has a complete captive audience and always will. Arglye, while closer to Masonville, serves a completely different income level and consumer. It is very much a "working class" mall serving the far less affluent E.of A. who simply can't entertain shopping at the high end stores of Masonville. Arglye is a dump and always was but it suits it's purpose and clientele.

I believe the enclosed portion of the mall will be torn down soon. A lot of the stores have moved out of the mall and into plazas. I think the area will still be popular with east London shoppers in the future, but it won't be a traditional mall like White Oaks. Soon it will only be a smart centre.

In any event, it will be a good addition to the area. The Oxford-Wonderland area has a large Asian population around there, some immigrant and some Western students.

I have yet to go to the Asian supermarket that took over the old Brunswick Huron bowling alley but I really want to pay them a visit sometime.

I was at Argyle Mall today, and it looks like the enclosed mall is now in the process of being demolished. I assume some more box stores will take its place.

I went to the World-famous London mall last weekend to check out the new Asian supermarket. Sears discrap is still going (but not very strong). The supermarket was jammed with shoppers. Cool stuff, but quite grungy (I'd almost be disappointed if it was not). Great place for mystery meats. Otherwise, the mall contains a shabby lottery booth, some place for alternations, Schmokey's BBQ, and that is it. Of course, a handful of stores on the periphery (e.g., Kelsey's).

Asian lanterns decorated the mall...perhaps it is now asian-owned? I would love a small asian mall in London. Our own Pacific Mall.

Last night I happened to be dragged (wife) to Whiteoaks Mall. This place is showing signs of being in trouble. At least 20 vacant fronts. At least 10 cellphone joints, and it seemed as though every second store also sold cellphones/packages as part of the merchandise mix. Craptastic stores like those repleting the Westmount Mall's second floor before it was converted to offices. Shit on a stick, with corn.

Devonshire Mall in Windsor also has a tonne of cellphone joints in it too, but the mall itself is doing very well, and is pretty much full.
