True dat.

Ritz and S-L are really the attention whores in construction lately. Were it not for them, a lot more people would be microanalyzing others, like this one, the fairmont and the convention centre.

Bottom line? It's a pretty exciting time to be a Vancouver skyscraper wonk.

sigh.....the original timeline for the Ritz, and I do mean the original timeline, was to have it done by late this year. Even 6 months ago, I was hoping that at least 50 floors of it would be done by the time of the Olympics.

Same can be said for the Georgia....with Bing Thom's crystal design, now stolen by the dirty Saudi's.

I don't think that's going to happen.

yes, and I was trying to inject a little levity into the discussion because i'll be happy if the Ritz is done in three years.

It's also good to see a new crane standing out in hopes of others to come. Vancouver will emerge from the global recession and this crane represents that.

Cool perspective - you can see the Jameson House crane in the distance - I think it would generally line up with the alley on the Hotel Georgia block.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. And it would prob. finish at the top or marginally above the crown of the HSBC tower.

The Developer was on the news the other day, stating that it will be built. But at the same time admitted that only about 50% of the units have sold. The big plus here is that there is an existing Hotel already in place.
Although nothing surprises me anymore.

I have heard a rumour, although completely unconfirmed, that they will bring this to street level and then put on hold. However, that doesn’t really make much sense so who knows.......

Maybe unsold suites would be put into the hotel's rental pool.

WRT stopping at grade - that would provide the hotel with parking spaces (so that makes some sense) but they would also have to rebuild the hotel ballroom which was demolished to build the underground parking. If there are any other hotel amenities planned for the lower levels of the tower, those may also be required for the hotel to be viable in the intermediate term.

I've never seen the Disclosure statement, but it wouldn't surprise me if that 'rental pool' provision isn't available to all the residential units.

Based on the 'mix' this building has, there may still be time to play with the configurations....or not.

The tower includes:

- 33 floors of residential with 156 condos,
- 8 floors providing 60,000 sq. ft. of office space,
- 3 floors for hotel usage, 1 floor of retail, 1 mechanical floor
- 7 levels of underground parking.
- major renovation of old hotel
