With the built in pumping system and the forms already made they could be at ground level in just over 2 months, probably end of march would be my predication if there aren't any stumbles.

I really like the look of this tower! Fingers crossed! it will be a fun one for us to watch rise (remember, if we had no Shangri-La this would be the city's tallest tower rising)

Someone forgot to tell Holborn that the Ritz-Carleton is off then, as they are still working on the site and they even just had hydro hooked up onsite last week. Latest word is completion is now set for 2012 instead of 2011. At least they are providing some updates now. Still not completely confident in it though.

i still believe in the Ritz, but it does appear that this one will be above ground first, so if the Shangri-La was not here it would become the tallest tower in Van, even if for less than a year, hehe. The theme of the comment is i find this project has been overshadowed, and if it were not for the S-L (and the Ritz) is would have received much more attention on this forum. Simply meaning, 5 years ago this would have been huge.

More good news on the Georgia. Malcolm Parry of the Vancouver Sun confirms in his column today, by way of the developers, that the project is indeed moving full steam ahead, and that a second crane will appear on the site later this week.

So how far along do you all think this one will be by the Olympics?

I think that would be a very safe assumption as they plan on having the hotel open for the games.

I’m still upset about them shutting down my favourite live music lounge.

IIRC, the reno's to the existing hotel will be done by the Olympics. The new skyscraper will obviously not be complete by then, though.
