It looks like the Rec Room in Edmonton only allows minors under the age of 18 with a guardian 25 years or older. It most likely would be similar at Brentwood... maybe that's why they chose VIP theatres only and not a mix of both?

Rec Room section might be open to minors with a guardian but I think the theatres are still 19+

VIP theatres are +19 only as they serve alcohol. The Rec room in edmonton is separate from the movie theatre, its in its own building close to if not right next to the theatre.

They are targeting adults not families, families have enough places to go, kids can ruin an adult night out, who wants to go party at the rec room with toddlers?

as per some reviews about the edmonton one people said they found it weird that kids were around drinking and drunk adults.

it's only 5 of probably 12 or more theatres. To access the VIP theatres you have to go through a bar or lounge as they call it, other than paying a crap load more for a ticket you're not missing out on much other than enjoying a beer or cocktail with your movie.

Coquitlam has 20 screens of which 5 are VIP.

I was reading the comments on DailyHive's FB page and a number of commenters who reside in the area are complaining about the increased in crime rates. Has anybody else noticed this also?

Massive Cineplex entertainment centre with ‘Playdium’ coming to Brentwood Mall
by Kenneth Chan - Daily Hive - May 16, 2017

"Cineplex has announced that it will build a massive 64,700 ft² entertainment centre at the top level of the expanded shopping mall complex that will include a VIP cinema with five auditoriums and a special lounge area.

There will also be a massive ‘Rec Room’ with over 100 arcade games and simulators, a bowling alley, and dining options including an upscale restaurant and sports bar."
Awesome!

I just spent the other night with a group of friends at Round One, a giant multi-level entertainment complex that is common throughout Japan. Video games, bowling, roller rink, air hockey, darts, karaoke, mechanical bull riding, etc...

Such great places to spend a night with friend. Of course in Japan you can drink, but good to hear that something similar will be coming to metro Van.

Interesting. Well, the Cineplex at the Marine Gateway mall certainly has both types.

It's a sign that night-life is coming to the Brentwood area, albeit the less desirable kind.

yeah thats a lot when it pushes the price around $20. I only use VIP if i want a good seat since you can book those days ahead of time. Not a deterrent for me but for a lot of people that makes going out to a movie less appealing.

I don't think this is the case. I believe that it's going to be five screens, VIP only. The box up there is not very big, and there's a lot of glass going up around it (meaning that it's open/concession/etc space) as well.

Here's the official press release: https://mediafiles.cineplex.com/press-re...%20FINAL%20REV.docx_20170516143454_0.pdf

Cineplex VIP Cinemas at The Amazing Brentwood will feature five auditoriums, approximately 365 luxury
recliners and will be located on the entertainment level, occupying approximately 20,700 square feet. VIP
Cinemas are a premium movie-going experience exclusive to Cineplex and feature a fully-licensed lounge to
enjoy before or after the movie and specially-designed VIP auditoriums where guests can relax in luxury
recliners.

I think you guys are mistaken, Gentrification is not occurring in Brentwood.

The residential neighbourhood surrounding Brentwood was always distinctly lower middle-class, and urban decay, unless you count a SEARS , was not the case here. Brentwood is simply urbanizing appropriate to increased residential demand along a transit node.

Perception of criminal activity increases with more activity. It's the same reason why the nimby's call out the crime skytrain.

Some stations such as Joyce and Whaley do have bad rep than others, sky train perceived as quick escape route. Yet Joyce is not as heavily used as many other stations. Guess what I am trying to say is increase activity does not necessarily equate to increase crime.... as long as the station has more security presence.

Speaking of the Skytrains... The Millenium line (downtown destination/VCC terminus) now is always jampacked by the time I try to get on at the Brentwood Town Centre station in the a.m. (what more the succeeding stations Gilmore.. etc). Sardines! And so more people are also waiting now on the platform as I've mentioned previously. I kind of hate using/taking it now at such times.

When The Amazing Brentwood (TAB) opens and other residents of the other as-yet-to-be-completed high rise buildings in the area move in.. I sort of don't like thinking about how bad this station is going to get. The Metrotown station was bad before and during the upgrade... I guess it'll be like the Metrotwon station eventually, unless they also expand/complete expansion of the Brentwood station (and train capacity of course) by the time those buildings and TAB are up.

The short trains are awful. I usually take it home from the airport after 10 pm on a sunday. I get to Broadway/Commercial and switch to the M line, around 10.45 pm. The platform is usually quite full and by the time everyone gets on the train bound for Coquitlam its packed and its on a sunday late evening. The frequency needs to be increased or they need longer trains at all times. I used to catch it downtown for school in 2011 from lougheed and the trains were long and they were always packed by the time they got to Brentwood at 6:30 in the morning.

From Shape Properties' leasing website:

Phase One includes the first and second tower, right? What does "Turn Over" mean?

They're not really talking about the towers here so much as the retail components that the leasing site addresses. Turn over is when substantial construction of the building(s) are completed and the individual tenants can begin fitting out their leased space to suit their own needs.
