Clear glass with fins allows more light in but blocks direct sunlight which causes solar gain and can be heavily insulated to reduce heat transfer.

It's a give and take but currently engineers favour clear glass in our climate over tinted, especially with high R values.

The casino has leed platinum and has the most mirrored tinted reflective glass ever! So it's doable to get leed and have that type of glass. (Another example is the new amazon tower in Seattle)

It provides a uniform look to the building and to some extent hides window blinds, etc.
My condo has tinted windows and it still gets hot in the summer.

There are also other condos in the Brentwood area with tinted glass - Renaissance Towers.

Don't you love the look of Sheraton Wall Centre with its black tinted glass and no protruding balconies? Uniform sleek look is what turns it into a downtown landmark. Can't say so when it used to have half clear glass though: that was City-induced abomination.

Just have good insulation. It's not like Vancouver winters are that cold and we have plenty of cheap natural gas.

Also, if you can have more glazing it reduces the need for artificial lighting. You make up for the (slightly) darker glazing with more of it.

Sure, there are many ways to skin a cat and no one way to achieve certain LEED points.

It just so goes that the most cost effective way to do it these days for the majority of projects seems to be with lower tinted glass, less glazing and solar shading.

When driving west from Holdom Station on Lougheed, Tower 1 seems massive imposing right in your path! Tower 2 seems slower to rise than T1.
I mean not like saying " 1for u and 1 for me"

More like 2 for T1 , 1 for T2 . None the less , amazing to watch them rise, can't see sky anymore from Willingdon/ Lougheed.

Looks awesome, thanks for the pics.
The retail podium will have a "finished" look quite soon.

The dark glass on the condo tower looks great!

Don't they normally have a couple VIP theatres and then a few more non-VIP auditoriums? Doesn't make sense that they don't allow minors at all.

The level below the theatres only has a 19ft ceiling - so not quite tall enough for a 2 level concert venue as shown for South Edmonton.
I wonder if they'll build a concert venue on the upper theatre level?
