That's a really drab grey. I was hoping for something darker.

But you don't have to build extra floors, you can just have a slightly taller antenna tower or whatever. That's how so many skyscrapers cheat!

The FAA approval is positive, but it doesn't mean that the 883' height is for sure yet. If they do switch to condos and increase the height, they should be making an announcement soon since the office levels are already U/C.

Once they finish the mechanical and whatever else that might go on top, it could potentially get that few extra feet?

The 883' would be the top of the walls/screen surrounding the mechanical, so no added height from mechanical. But with a 17' spire, we would have a 900 footer.

A 101' spire and we would have a super tall.
But then, everybody would ridicule Austin, just like everyone ridicules the Wilshire Grand for the 294" spire (166' above roof level) that makes it the "tallest" building West of the Mississippi.
But I wouldn't be averse to building a 4' spire, so we could overtake Renaissance Tower in Dallas, as the 5th tallest in Texas. (710' Renaissance Tower itself added a 176' spire so they could brag they were the 2nd tallest building in Dallas. It's kind of like the Wilshire Grand of Texas.

I say we just wait for the actual supertall to be built. I'm okay with almost 900ft on this one. Heck, we used to complain about a 400' plateau. We're doing okay, y'all....

Hopefully we'll reach a point where we complain about 1,200ft soon.

I already think 1,200ft is too short. That's how spoiled I am now.

I am nerding out big time over austin's development LOL. Used to live near Chicago and it's so cool to watch Austin grow up right before our very eyes into a major downtown. 6XG and 98 red river or whatever that one is will take Austin to the big leagues!

"Scratching" the big leagues. Haha
Austin's skyline is still small considering.

No, you're right. We're still small. But definitely close to the next tier. The next five years will be a tipping point.
There are so many good skylines in the U.S.

I mean, I don't think we're a small skyline anymore - certainly not by global standards, and assuming we get 2-3 of the big ones under planning we'll be in that L.A., Houston, Atlanta, Seattle tier of "next one ups" skylines in the US. Maybe we aren't at the top of that list, but we're in that general grouping of "that's a large dense skyline in a city center of a car-centric place".

Chicago, NYC and Toronto are the sort of unassailable skylines in North America that just have a "goes on forever" density + height.
