Poor guy. I'll trade you my outdoor space for your view/sunlight.

You have to go to the other side of the building (and preferably up a few floors) to see fireworks.*

That's a nice backyard garden you have there, Pinion. Nice, green and well-maintained.

Few quick shots from yesterday.

I really love the glass on the Westin tower. Wish it would be 15 floors taller.

One of the strangest buildings in Vancouver must be the Hy's Encore Stakehouse in middle of Downtown. This tiny building looks so out-of-place at its location, but it is very nice from inside.

Cool exterior view of Hy's, never really looked at it from that angle before.

It is indeed unnoticeable building from outside. I wonder what's the history of it? And what future plans the site may have?

I don't know about the history of the building itself, but during the late 80's when the Vancouver Medical Dental building was redeveloped into what is now Cathedral Place, the additional lots along Hornby Street, including Hy's, were to be assembled into the new development. After repeated offers the owners of the Hy's building refused to sell; believing that they could delay or even prevent the new development from going ahead without them. At some point the City allowed the Cathedral Place development to go ahead, leaving the Hy's building as one of the City's most noticeable "orphan" lots.

It's only about 30 feet wide, so would be difficult to redevelop. I think Hy's does alright anyway so there probably won't be any change anytime soon.

Unless they did some small development in between the two towers. Interesting that the son of the founder of Hy's is currently is the president of the Keg. Sounds like the Hy's Hornby location is still owned by the Aisenstats family.

It was renovated sometime within the past 10 years. So they survived while Morton's closed down.

Lots of lightning again today, tried to snap some pics but it was futile with a crappy Samsung Galaxy. Did get one of a great sunset, the pic didn't turn out well but the low lying clouds really made it spectacular.
