That buffet annoys the hell out of my wife and I. Why they require you to walk across the casino floor to access it baffles me. Because of this, no kids are allowed at the buffet. This is a design flaw that should have been addressed early on. Even Hollywood Slots in Bangor has a walled off entrance that allows you to get to the buffet without crossing the floor, allowing kids to enter. BTW, that's a good place to stuff yourself silly.

I can only imagine this is pretty inconvenient for families staying at the casino's hotel.

Sorry if this is off topic.

Hmm, what are the Casino laws like in NB? I know in Vegas, kids aren't allowed among the gaming tables/machines, but they are allowed on the corridors. That's needed because elevators and the restaurants, show and mall access points are usually through the Gaming floors.

I haven't been in NB Casino in a long time, but could they (or do they) have access corridors, either around the edge of the gaming floor or through the middle for family access? Or do they just flat out not allow them in. (IIRC they do have a guard at the entrance so it's probably the later)

No kids allowed in the buffet due to having to cross the floor of the gaming parlour in order to get to the food.
I suspect this is the way it is because they hope you will pause on your way to the buffet to pop a few twonies into a machine.
I also suspect there is little financial benefit to catering to children at a casino.
And yeah, if I was a guest in the hotel, I'd be pissed.

Truthfully I don't mind one restaurant in Moncton where there are no kids. If I was staying at the hotel with kids, meh, McDonalds and subway just down the street.

That's interesting. They've obviously had this deal going for Crystal Palace since last fall (when they announced the store). Opening is only 12 months away. You would think they would have had the design carved in stone by now.

According to the T&T, La Guitare will be staying open in it's current location on St George St, as well as the Maritime School of Music.

FYI:

Housewares battle pushes Bowring, Bombay into bankruptcy protection.

This could be bad news for Wheeler Park (Bowring) and the Mapleton Centre (Bombay).

[QUOTE=MonctonRad;6688139]FYI:

They were granted "Bankruptcy protection". It refers to when a company declares that it is insolvent and needs time to get their finances reorganized. During this time, the company needs protection from its creditors so that it can work out its difficulties and come up with a plan to get back on track. They could rebound or they can still be in business for many years before actually filing bankruptcy.

Two things:

1)- According to the T&T, the Moncton BPS is not currently slated to have a restaurant. Final design however is not yet complete and this might change. http://22864.vws.magma.ca/index.php?&article_id=13616
2)- All of the precast concrete walls for the Cabela's are now up.

Heard from a reliable source that due to the parent companies bankruptcy protection Bowring and Bombay will close in Moncton (along with most other locations across Canada). Sad news but it was always kind of expected.

Sears Canada will be one of the next to go I'm sure (5-10 years max). I've heard from a family member who works in the Mall location that they are doing very well locally but that obviously wont mean much in the long run.

Yes, I'm not surprised by this. The source I first heard this from stated that there are no suitors for Bombay or Bowring therefore in this case, bankruptcy will likely mean liquidation rather than reorganization. There are apparently no white knights on the horizon - which is too bad. I rather like Bombay.....

Regarding Sears, I agree that their days are likely numbered as well, and the demise might be sooner than you think. Locally however, I'm quite optimistic that the Bay will take over the Champlain Place location, which might mean that the Sears Home location at Wheeler Park might become a Home Outfitters.

Finally, Cabela's is now advertising managerial jobs online for the new Moncton store. Just like Bass Pro Shop, the first jobs to be advertised are for a general manager and an HR director.

The new shoe store at the Mapleton Centre has been revealed.

it will be Pop Shoes http://www.chaussurespop.com/index.php/en/.

I have never heard of this chain before, but on further review, they already have a couple of stores located in northern NB. It is a Quebec based chain (like Mode Choc or Le Grenier) and has outlets throughout that province as well as northern NB and francophone northern Ontario.

It's interesting how the Mapleton Centre seems to be targeting Quebec based chains to set up shop. I'm not sure if this is a sincere effort to seek out new-to-market retailers for the city or a merely a sign of desperation……..
