I Grew up with those rides...they belong in Moncton. Plus Shining Waters is super lame...those rides deserve to be part of something that already has prestige like the Magnetic Hill area.

Also... I don't think some of those rides are meant to be outside. That swinger would wear pretty fast, at least finish-wise. It was a pretty nice one.

It does appear that they will be preserving the general shape of Crystal Palace, and if there is only minimal demolition (hotel and conference centre), this should expedite any construction schedule.

I guess the race is on then between Cabela's and BPS, although I still expect Cabela's to open first........

Ugly, tacky and hickish. Way to ruin all the money Dieppe spent rebuilding that end of Paul St.

I'm told the Cabela's building should be ready to be handed over to the operator in May. It's then a question of finishing the interior, stocking shelves, etc.

I don't think it'll look as bad as the render. The render is preliminary and cartoonish. Wait for the finished product.

I'm not surprised there are lots of upset people. Crysatl Palace was unique and an excellent tourism draw in it's own right. Hopefully the Jelley family will see fit to replicate Crystal Palace in some form out at Magic Mountain.

I think you'll see them perhaps split up the assets of Crystal Palace. Some of the bigger stuff (Roller Coaster, Swings) might stay on a new Moncton Park. Other things like the arcade or laser tag might make it's way to Sandspit or Shining Waters.

Given that they already operate 3 parks on PEI, I'm sure they are fully aware of it and have continued to grow their businesses on PEI in spite of it. Cavendish has a very large cluster of family oriented activities for leisure oriented clientele. That is the key determinant, not just population or visitor numbers. It has to be the right type of population and the right type of visitor, same as any business.

The following was stated on CTV website. It would appear they are trying to keep it locally.

"However, the rides may be relocated nearby. The company say it's working with Maritime Fun, owners of Magic Mountain, to ensure the rides remain part of the community."

But it will be interesting to see how the big two will fair in the Moncton/ Dieppe area. But I was at the mall today and I saw hat Victoria Secret has opened today in the mall and it looks good from what I saw. Now I can't wait to see what else is lined up for he city as far as retail.

But here is my wish list as far as stores
Abercrombie & Fitch
Forever 21
Hollister
Journeys
Lids locker Room
Nike
Polo Ralph Lauren
Five Guys
Krispy Kreme

And that's to name a few I am optimistic that there will be a new theme park for the city of Moncton and that could be potentially tied not a tanger style outlet shopping/ entertainment complex. I know many families are upset over his but its a dollar and cents game and also I think the cost of renovating the hotel, conference center, and amusement park may have been over and above a factor.

But who knows and looking at the drawing it looks like Bass Pro Shop may be bringing in heir own restaurant brand to the store and this WILL draw tourists from all points in the maritimes and beyond.

Further to the above, here is a picture I took this evening at mall closing time of the new Victoria's Secret and Pink.



So, on this side of the main mall corridor, we now have these six stores side by side:
- Pandora
- Fossil
- Victoria's Secret
- Pink
- Swarovski
- Sephora

Not a bad line up at all…….

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but here is a conceptual drawing of the Cabela's being built at Mapleton Crossing:



This is a nice crisp render. I hope that the Bass Pro Shop at Champlain Place will turn out as nice. As I've said before, the render below is cartoonish and I think the final product will be much nicer, and hopefully similar in quality to the construction above.



Cabela's is supposed to be ready for occupancy by May. I don't know when it will actually open but hopefully by June. The T&T states that BPS will be open in the "late summer". So, it appears that Cabela's does indeed have a 2-3 month head start. Here's hoping they take full advantage of this……….

pierremoncton stated earlier that Cabela's building will be ready to turn over May 1st and then it's a question of finishing the interior, stocking shelves, etc.

It will be interesting to see the fight to who will get done sooner. I think BPS will be a better store as it is going to be twice the size of Cabela's. BPS = 110,000 sq. ft. and Cabela's = 50,000 sq. ft.

BPS will certainly be the bigger draw, which is why I think it's important that Cabela's has a little head start first in order to get established in the marketplace.

Regardless, I'm confident that there will be tremendous synergy between thw two stores and that retail tourists visiting the city will end up visiting both stores when they are here and not just one. I really hope both end up doing well.

I wonder if BPS will bring one of their signature restaurants to Moncton as well? I have seen no mention of this, but the majority of their stores include restaurants..........

I posted pictures on page 101 of the restaurant/bar I ate at the BPS outside Chicago and it was very good. I really hope they do to replace McGinnis.

I find that odd. You'd think they would want customers to stay in for as long as possible. And for a store that large with the expected foot traffic, I'm sure there is an excellent business case for one... or maybe not

Also, I have to agree with Pierre; ugly, tacky and hickish. Especially in such a prominent location. This thing belongs somewhere off the TCH or maybe on Harrisville off Veterans. A giant fake log house at one of the most prominent entrances to the central part of the city is not the most appealing view.

Too bad. I think they're missing the boat on that one.

One of the biggest differences between the new Cabela's and the new Bass Pro Shop is that Cabela's is a new build and therefore will be a traditional (albeit relatively small format) location. It will be similar to all the other Cabela's in Canada (which are all smaller than their American cousins).

The BPS store however will be a renovation of an existing space. Granted, this will be a major renovation coupled with demolition and some reconstruction, but this will make our BPS different than most of their other stores. Apparently there will be no restaurant in our location. BPS should be careful. If the perception builds out there that the Moncton store is "cutting corners" or "making do", then this could affect customer experience and might play to Cabela's advantage.

The interplay between the two stores will be interesting to watch. It will be David vs Goliath in some ways. I tend to root for the underdog. Cabela's will be on my side of town anyway……..

I couldn't agree more. Some BPS stores have more than one restaurant, even a barber shop, bowling alley that makes it look like you are bowling under the sea, climbing wall, all kinds of weird and wonderful stuff. Why not here? Why not indeed. How often do we get something here that we've coveted for decades, only to find out that it's a scaled down version? Too often.
Looking forward to BPS coming to my town and I'll be a good customer.
Just disappointed in this aspect of it. If a casino can have a BOOMING restaurant, then BPS certainly can. I'm baffled why they don't see the obvious opportunity here to have a money-making restaurant and especially to keep their shoppers in the store a few hours extra.
