On a Rideau Centre note: I hope to make it down there before September, are there any stores confirmed for the expansion that aren't open yet but will soon? Also, I was downtown two weeks ago and I am surprised that Nestle Toll House closed, I feel it would have done really well now that the expansion is complete.

When I cash my cheque at the RBC or go to the Chamberfest downtown, I always stop at the Rideau Centre, because of convenience. I eat at the new food court, where the former Sears was located. The food is not the best, but it is average. It costs about $12. At least, I do not have to wait along time. It is quick. I think that they opened a Bridgestone at the expansion that will be convenient for most people. Some of the stores in the expansion are opening in the winter of 2017.

^^ At first glance it seems like you've cherry picked the 4 lowest-income wards east of the Rideau.

I imagine average incomes in Somerset, Kitchissippi, and Capital are high. Even if they're not, people who live downtown have a much higher % of their income as disposable income, due to being more likely to not own a car (and if they do, being much less likely to have multiple cars per household) and being less likely to have children.

Conversely, for the opposite reason, suburban families are often not nearly as "wealthy" (in the sense of being able to spend lots of money on luxury items) as they seem on paper.

I'm a west ender who commutes downtown. Often when I don't need to commute for any reason I really find myself in Kanata/Stittsville: not an issue of pride, just something I noticed.

I also moved here from the Middle East three years ago. This mall actually surprisingly feels like home. I guess North America is finally getting what a shopping mall should look like! You invented it, but the GCC definitely perfected it!

^^ Glance again. The discussion was about Bayshore being #2 and why that is. Here's a few hints:

- Until recently one area had no mall. Nearest was Bayshore. Incomes are much higher than average in this area.
- The other area has a mall (St. Laurent). Ward selection is based on proximity to this for illustrative purposes. Incomes are lower than average in this area.
- Compare the "prominence" of both malls, in terms of retailer makeup.

Even Peter Simon, during recent interviews about the Rideau opening, mentioned that he wants to open a store in West Ottawa next, citing "there's a lot of wealth" there. No guarantee it would be at Bayshore, but that's my bet.

Since they were referenced, Somerset is below average, Kitchissippi and Capital are above, but not as high as the West.

In retrospect, I think had Bayshore been built a bit later and in Kanata, it would have become the main mall for Ottawa even today. Its cramped location is a negative for access.

I revisited the expansion today with fresh eyes. I am still just as impressed. The quality of the materials and fixtures is top notch. The little cafe at Simon's is my new favourite chill spot, although it needs a good glass cleaning and some solar shielding. The new double elevator bank is very fast, which is important when you're carting around a baby. The view of the centre from the courtyard across from the new entrance is amazing, it really makes you feel like you are in a big city. The integration of the Ogilvies facade was REALLY well done and I feel like it was a worthwhile venture that adds to the appeal of the centre.

Was walking around the Rideau expansion and Ogilvy Square last night. The square is really nice.. a bit dead at the moment, but it will liven up once the area is no longer an intense construction zone, the Joey's restaurant opens, and a new tenant moves in to replace the Nestle Toll House.

The construction on the south side of Rideau around the square is also complete; the new design of Rideau looks really nice.. it's going to look great once the LRT is open.

I'm also impressed with how well integrated the Rideau expansion is with Rideau Street.

Kevin, is the Sportchek going in the area where the former Club Monaco and Grand & Toy use to be on the 3rd floor? I am going to see the expansion on Monday. On the third floor it'll be where the Grand & Toy and Customer Service desk used be. On the second floor it'll be where Sports Experts used to be.

Would have been sweet if they could have worked it to have its own entrance from Rideau. Either way, tres cool that it will be a 2 level setup.

I went to see the expansion today and it looks really lovely. Many of the clothes, shoes, cosmetics, handbag, and jewellery shops look quite nice. The Simon's store is on the 3rd and 4th floor. I walked inside Simon's and they seem to have decent stuff, except that I do not want to buy clothes which are over $100. In the fall, I might want to buy a pair of winter pants which cost less than $100. I saw the Disney Store, except that I do not have any children, but only two cat children. I saw Bridgehead and I will try this coffee shop in November, once it cools down. For now, I go to the Freshly Squeezed and I love this naturally freshly squeezed orange juice which has no sugar added. H&M has two floors and it looks nice. Zara's in the expansion has two floors and it looks better than the other Zara which was on the 3rd floor near where SportChek is going to be which is also two floors. It does not open until the winter and I will love to see, if they have a nice pair of snow pants, because my old ones are tearing up. Joey's does not open until spring of next year. I ate at Joey's at Lansdowne and it was okay. I just had a standard hamburger with fries. I am curious to try the candy at Squish to see what it tastes like. On the whole, Cadillac Fairview did very well renovating the Rideau Centre and constructing the expansion.
