Love Bubble waffle but the best one is still the one at Aberdeen centre in Richmond. More choices in their menu.

When you count 56 real floors, does the lobby get counted as 3 floors?

Most of the construction schedule time has been eaten up by the deep parking (which includes partial retail anchor tenant component) and the complex retail podium and plaza which are atypical for residential towers (in this region anyway).

In fact I believe the actual towers themselves will take a shorter time to complete than it took to get most of the basic structure of the podium and parking done so far (roughly 3 years and counting).

Any idea or word on the anchor stores? Shape will not announce anything it seems. I heard rumors of a supermarket but that's about it.

Sears is looking like an "outlet" these days

Rest of the mall (aside from the Food Court and London Drugs) is pretty much dead.\

They have not announced anything in terms of major tenants I beleice. And yes, the mall is a dead zone. Given that after this phase of construction is done they will renovate the mall itself it makes sense. Less active leases is better for when the mall will finally be under construction.

Maybe this one turns out like Tinseltown?

Vacant for 2 decades?

Something tells me not likely though.

By the way - did y'all hear the existing mall is dead, except for few hang arounds in the food court?

Heh, I don't think anything will end up quite like Tinseltown.

That said, Brentwood has been kind of a lame duck mall for decades. All of the new population around it will change that this time, I'm sure of it.

Tinseltown was barren for so long because the neighbourhood just didn't have the population to support it until recently. Or at least, not the kind of population that would buy stuff. I don't know why it hasn't gotten much better though, the area certainly has a lot more foot traffic.

I think Brentwood will thrive once it's complete. So much more density in the area and the fanfare of this new development will draw people to it.

Tinseltown is empty because it's mall management didn't care. Henderson is pretty hands off, not really an advisable tactic in retail tenanting.

For sure - I was mostly joking about Brentwood being a vacant ghost town.

Being on the Skytrain line, all the density coming into the neighbourhood, on top of the existing will be plenty of an incentive for retailers to set up shop.

I think for people like me who live in the NE would prefer to go to Brentwood than metrotown. I really don't like going there unless I have to. I've only gone to whole foods once, it's just not something i need to shop at but nice to have closer by.

I will definitely go to Brentwood a lot more too. It's already a somewhat frequent dining area for me. Very convenient location for anyone on the eastern north shore - just as fast as downtown, but with free parking.

I just cant see it ending up like Tinseltown or International Village, which does not look like it is well run. I doubt Shape properties would invest 1.3 billion into a development only to see it flounder. They will be proactive in making the mall a success. As well, the number of units that will be live in the next fives years could top 10,000, which means that upwards of 15,000 people could be calling Brentwood home in the next five years.

As for the mall being dead that is what happens when there is a development of this sort happening. I doubt the mall will want to provide multiyear leases when it knows that it will be renovating the entire interior in a couple of years. The less stores that are in there means an easier time when it comes to making renovations.

Brentwood is the prototype of City of Lougheed, too much is at stake for Shape if Brentwood not do well .

I dunno about "just". It's been closed for at least 2 months.

It was a horrible location though. Any time I went there it was totally dead. Though the Cactus Club seems to be doing ok. So maybe it's just a bad location for Boston Pizza and their demo
