Vid, from what you tell us I'm guessing there's a lot of things you do that requires going down alleys and through the back door.

It can be difficult sometimes, my back door is a very tight squeeze. You have to fiddle for a while to get it opened.

The posts above make this post seem really out of place. Who the fuck is Nolan?

Click link (above) and read by-line. In short Nolan Finley is the Editor of The Detroit News, the moderate/conservative Detroit daily, who wants to swing the paper (and the state) to the far right.

If he were in Arizona or Oklahoma he would probably be a mainstream republican, in Michigan, however, he is a far right extremist because Michigan republicans would probably, on average, be to the left of Arizona or Oklahoma democrats. Basically, to the average Michigander he is destroying what was once a decent centre-right paper. I think the only reason he got the job (and the News is still around) is because he often writes about how the city of Detroit causes all problems (crime, poverty, AIDS, Osama bin Laden ), which still plays well with a portion of his suburban readership. Otherwise, his paper has fallen woefully short since all of the moderate republican writers quit or retired and the editorial page was dumped with his craziness and handpicked national right-wing wack-jobs (Michelle Malkin & Thomas Sowell). His major competitor, The Detroit Free Press, the centre-left Detroit daily, has really beat the News on investigative journalism over the past few years.

I sort of continue to identify with the idea of "Rockefeller Republicanism" akin to what used to be seen in parts of the Midwest and Northeast (socially liberal/fiscally conservative). I guess nowadays that would peg me squarely as a Democrat in most places, but I absolutely hate what both parties have become.

As a current Arizonan, I'd hesitate to even call what we have out here "Republicans." They're more like right wing psuedo Libertarians who talk out both sides of their mouths (claiming to "value personal freedoms" while imposing their morality on everyone else).

Hell, I'm convinced Reagan and Goldwater would be sickened by what's being done in their names by the goofballs running this country nowadays. Lest we forget both were huge assholes...

I think everyone would be surprised how far and how fast this country has swung to the extreme right. Hell, I'm sure George Romney would love to smack his son Mitt a few times to knock some sense into him. We're no longer slightly to the right of peer nations, but even our democrats now make the UK Tories look like card-carrying socialists. Frankly, we are going down the banana republic path.

Nolan, Rick is the Governor or Michigan not Arizona (thank goodness!). Sorry if you were expecting a mouth-foaming (Obamacare! Muslim-Socialist-Foreigner! No tax raise EVER!) tea party republican http://www.detnews.com/article/20110...er-an-elephant

Maybe it's just a wish of mine, but I fully expect this guy to formally declare himself an independent before his term is out. Hell, he'd even toyed with running as an independent very early on before he realized that independents don't win gubernatorial primaries, here. He's held the tea party legislature at bay since day one, but stuff coming to a head very quickly (they want stuff in return for carrying his water), and we're going to see some nasty fireworks before the year's out.

Rick, even if he is a republican, is something special among the recent crop of crazy Midwestern republican governors. Hell, Rick is further to the left of former democratic Ohio governor Ted Strickland, who was thrown out of office and replaced with a tea party former Lehman Brothers executive

Just found out that my wife and I are going to have a baby. You guys are hearing it before my family does! I was going to wait to tell them until her first doc appointment and ultrasound.

I finally told my real family last night. So far the response has been positive. We also told our 5-year old son last night. At first he had this very shocked look on his face. Then he started to cry. Not sure if it was a happy cry or sad cry. He wouldn't tell us. However when I dropped him off at school this morning he announced to every person he passed that he was going to be a big brother. :-)

Thanks guys,

Technically it's # 4. Had a son who was stillborn. He would have been 22. Have another son that is 20 and my youngest son is 5. I'm officially done after this one.
