Big news for the Alpharetta, and it could result in some potential layoffs in the area.

"Schweitzer-Mauduit International Inc. today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to buy Neenah Inc. in an all-stock deal described by the companies as a "merger of equals." The companies' combined revenues are expected to be around $3 billion, with SWM having reported about $1.4 billion in sales in 2021 and Neenah reporting just over $1 billion.

Julie Schertell, president and CEO of Neenah, will serve as president and CEO of the combined company. It will remain headquartered in Alpharetta. A new name is pending, the companies said.

SWM's global headquarters is located at 100 North Point Center East in Alpharetta. It has a manufacturing facility in Athens. Neenah leases its headquarters at 3460 Preston Ridge Road, about 4 miles away from SWM."

Mobile money transfer and payment service Cash App has leased all 30,000 available square feet at The Mill, Coro Realty’s recently-completed transformation of the former Masquerade venue on North Avenue, sources with knowledge of the deal told Atlanta Business Chronicle.

In all, 11 cities in the U.S., three in Mexico and two in Canada were chosen. Decisions haven’t been made yet on how many matches (likely four to six) or what level of matches each selected city will get.

Now that we are officially a host city for the World Cup, I was wondering, what sort of changes can we expect? Will there be an uptick in building? Will the city repair streets and sidewalks in the downtown area? Also, realistically, how much of Centennial Yards will be completed by then? I just wanted your thoughts on this.

I wouldn't expect any changes. There will just be a few matches at MBS. It's not much different from hosting the Super Bowl a few years ago.

Speculation is high that Dallas and Atlanta will be the two venues hosting the semi final matches and the final will go to NY/NJ. Atlanta is also viewed as a strong contender for the International Broadcast Center.

A Ford Motor Co. research and innovation hub is coming to West Midtown, the company confirmed.

The automobile company has leased 15,400 square feet at the 8West office building, developer The Atlantic Cos. confirmed this week. Ford plans to bring a research and innovation center focusing on software and technology development to the space.

Chart Industries, Inc. (NYSE: GTLS) (“Chart”) today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Howden, a leading global provider of mission critical air and gas handling products and services, from affiliates of KPS Capital Partners, LP. The purchase price is $4.4 billion and will be funded through a combination of cash and shares of a newly created class of preferred stock.

The acquisition will result in estimated combined revenue of approximately $3.4 billion based on the trailing twelve months as of August 31, 2022.

After spending more than a decade in the suburbs, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wants to reestablish its workplace near the center of the city.

The AJC is eyeing upwards of 10,000 square feet of space in Intown Atlanta, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the matter, a search that has been ongoing for at least a year. Midtown is the likely target, sources say. The publication currently houses its offices at 7000 Central Park in Sandy Springs, a high-rise building near the offices used by its parent company, Cox Enterprises.

"As more of our employees are gravitating back to working in the office, the AJC needs a larger, more modern space," said an AJC spokesperson in a Monday statement. "We are looking to relocate our offices closer to the center of the city to accommodate the growth and transformation that’s ahead for our organization."
