I think a separate thread is needed for these bridge replacements as this is not involve widening the 417.

I’ve always thought the new overpass will have more lanes.

IIRC, they are just adding shoulders to these sections. When they did the ones over Carling and Kirkwood years ago they did with preparation for the widening in that area, but I don't think they are planning for widening in the central section anytime soon.

The approved EA in the early 2000s looked at widening the core from 6 to 8 lanes but it was not recommended. Therefore the MTO is more likely to build new highways outside the core than expand further inside, except for the unfinished widening from Maitland Ave. to 416. That project was put on hold for the time being...

The bridges at Maitland and Richmond Rd are scheduled to be replaced in the next few years. I can't recall if it's Woodroffe or Pinecrest that will also be replaced with the other two locations.

They may not be adding active lanes at the moment, but adding future capacity to highway structures and adding to shoulders seems to qualify as "widening" to me. Here's a refresher of the expansion project:

All new overpass replacements are wider and will accommodate for an 8 lane highway in the future. All the drawings reflect this and all of the retaining walls and noise barriers from Booth to Percy have been pushed back as well.

I believe the plan is to replace all bridges up to Nicholas street and then we will have 8 lanes running though centertown.

Ah okay I thought so too. This is Ontario not B.C., after all.

I don’t think that is possible, the Kent bridge was only done 8 years ago and is 3 lanes wide. I believe the plan is to keep the downtown configuration of 3 or 4 lanes and widen to 4 west of downtown.

A possibility is to have EB lane 4 exit at Kent Street, thus keeping only 3 through EB lanes over Kent Street.

I can confirm that Woodroffe and Pinecrest are included in that round of bridge replacements. The city is currently in discussions with the MTO to make sure better bike and pedestrian infrastructure is included in a replacement project for once.

It took me exactly 2 hour and 46 minutes to get home to Aylmer from Barrhaven this afternoon.

Wow. This that your regular commute? Because it seems like two of the most distant locations time wise you can get in Ottawa. An hour might be pretty typical no?

No, I work from home and on the road. I had a meeting in the office in Barrhaven this afternoon unfortunately. Bad timing. If not for the bridge, it would still be a little over an hour.

The highway has reopened, although Bronson will be closed for a few more weeks.

Queensway open to commuters Monday morning, Bronson remains closed for repairs

Ottawa commuters got some relief from weekend Queensway closures Monday morning.

The pre-formed overpass structure was successfully in place over Bronson Avenue as of Saturday night and workers were busy Sunday doing last-minute adjustments and paving the roadway.

Monday morning, vehicles could be seen driving on the overpass as construction crews continued to work on Bronson below.

The Queensway was closed eastbound between Carling/Kirkwood and Metcalfe and westbound between Metcalfe/Catherine and Rochester during the weekend construction period.

While there were several complaints about traffic problems on Friday when construction got underway, police reported no major issues over the busy weekend.

However, motorists who normally use Bronson Avenue will continue to face challenges for the next two weeks.

As part of the construction, Bronson will remain closed to pedestrians and vehicles until Thursday, July 27 at 6 a.m. from Catherine to Chamberlain.

Pedestrians and cyclists on Bronson will be detoured to Percy Street, while motor vehicles will be detoured to Booth Street southbound and Chamberlain/Bank/Catherine northbound.

Meanwhile, motorists should be prepared for another Queensway shutdown as the Percy Street overpass will be replaced in August. The Queensway will close from 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10 and reopen at about 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 14.

Have been seeing lots of news warning of the 417 closure for the Percy overpass replacement, but barely anything about the closure happening in just two weeks for the O-Train ped bridge installation at Queensview station. Sounds like the 417 will be closed between Woodroffe and Greenbank from July 28-31 for that one.
