I'm much happier with 116 and Good Neighbour anyways.

I wish nothing but success for the current batch of indie joints on Sherbrook (and Shorty's around the corner).

To add, the gf really likes Ramallah Cafe.

Also she took the child to Fort Whyte on the weekend and reports the new management of the restaurant is great with good good and large portions.

Not surprised. She seems tired and disinterested. Anytime I or my friends try to go she says come back later or another time, we are closed. This might be somehow a great time with the nearby Windsor about to be demolished and a new proposal ro come.

That Korean hot-dog place is really expanding quickly. There is one not too far from me, and I saw a couple of locations in Montreal during F1. I took my kid to it. My advice, don't try to drive and eat one.

I saw Chungchun in Vancouver as well.

I noticed Gladys Caribbean on Sargent is for sale (but not the name, maybe they're moving?). Kind of a shame, Sargent is a good street for local food and there are not a lot of Caribbean joints in the city compared to other kinds of food.

There’s a Chungchun right next to Maples that I travel across the city for if I want a Korean Hot Dog. Those things are good af. Glad there’s a place in Osborne now.

Highly recommend trying Cheezy Tales on Portage (in St James area) if you havent already; on Tuesday you can get two original korean dogs for $7, and Thuesday you can get 2 either Ramen covered or Chocolate (yes, chocolate) dogs for $7 as well. Great place, actually do think it tastes better than Chung Chun.

Mitzi's apparently has plans to take a bunch of their food an sell it through commercial channels (grocery, wholesale, etc). The sale of the building is apparently to help fund that. Hope I am wrong but part of me wonders if that plan might be someone running a scam against them.

That said the sale of the building definitely opens up a great opportunity in Winnipeg as that is a fairly high visibility corner in downtown. The other aspect is it finally separates the purely nostalgia driven hype around Mitzi's and opens the door for someone to come in and open a new chicken finger place delivering quality food that lives up even remotely to the hype of Mitzi's. The factory made, frozen fries heavily call into question if anything is being made from scratch as the quality is definitely lacking.

this sounds like a very standard second-generation family business move

the first generation builds a modestly prosperous small business; the second generation tries to turn it into a sexy growth firm and kills it in the process
