That surprises me. I drive by it several times a day and it looks to still be in full construction mode. No exterior cladding yet, conduit for what I assume are heat pumps hanging out of exterior walls and the balconies aren't built yet. The site is cluttered with materials and equipment, there is no landscaping and the wire fencing is still up. I sure wouldn't want to live in a construction site for five or six months.

I don't think Quispamsis has any large projects on the go at the moment. It is becoming the epicenter for single-family home construction so no surprise.
I believe there is also a 24 unit under construction at the bottom of Clark Road in Rothesay .

Good to know, wasn’t sure if it has started or not

The proposed Ethos Ridge development at 2100 Sandy Point Road will be going before the planning advisory committee on July 4th for some changes to the proposed design plans.

Interesting and exciting to see CPKC making such a huge investment in cold storage logistics with the Port of Saint John being key to its strategy.

This should lead to substantial additional investment around the Port to support this initiative. In the article they talk about CP having over 32,000KM of track stretching from Port SJ all the way to Mexico.

Exciting times!

I wonder and hope that if this goes through, it will spark up some more development in that area.
To my eye there is tons of land available to start housing projects and probably room for a few gas stations/restaurants etc.

It was published on allNewBrunswick which has pretty strict copy rules so I won't share it here. It is subscription based.

You can see the press release here without the local SJ portion included.

I don't think the city strongly desires a lot of development out there. Many homes are on wells and some on septic. There's a lot to be built out first in the Cambridge Estates, off Anchorage, Highland, Forbes, University, etc.

Now they are requesting 7 years to complete instead of 5. Moncton could build 7 of them in that timeframe.

A depressing number of these proposals seem to be from aspirational dreamers rather than real developers with funding, expertise and an established track record.

This looks so much more like a regular multi-unit building than it did before, which is pretty disappointing considering the ambition of the early proposal. I still like it, but not the exciting new retirement concept it was at first.

I agree. I also notice the parking lot has expanded, so they must be expecting more visitors with this more utilitarian approach. This was probably the planned design all along.

They removed underground parking and the pool to save money. Two features seniors love lol.

I haven't been to campus in a while, but Wayne Long yesterday shared on social media a progress photo of the Health and Social Innovation Centre at UNBSJ. Still looks like just site-prep, but as someone who grew up with a parent who worked at the university, it's crazy seeing UNBSJ without the Ward Chipman building.

i added the '[Saint John] Port Development' thread today.

Tonight looks like it might be the first simultaneous visit of two containers ships.

Appreciation post here about the Saint John fog as we enter a few days of heat warnings for much of the East. I don't know how anyone survives without it.

Some updates about The Vistas:

Quote:
SAINT JOHN — Phase one of the residential apartment building development known as “The Vistas” is continuing to move forward at 60-80 Technology Drive, with the first of potentially five buildings set to open in May of 2024.

Following the acquisition of over 10 acres of land from Commercial Properties Limited in 2021 as part of a land amassment effort for the site, Melanie Dowd-Martell co-owner of Somerset Living says the first building is “on schedule” to deliver 87 units in spring of next year.

The total Technology Drive property is now almost 34 acres.

“When we presented this to the city, the proposal was for five buildings in total, over time,” Dowd-Martell says. “There’s ample space up there to have the building that we’re currently constructing and four additional buildings, and still have plenty of green space around them.”

She says the decision on when the other buildings will be built will be determined by the absorption of the units from the first development into the market and the assessment of ongoing demand.

Building one, located at 60 Technology Drive at “The Vistas” as the entire development will be known, will contain 87 units ranging from one-bedroom, one-bathroom units in the 600 square foot range, to two-bedroom, two-bathroom units in the 1030 square foot range. There are also units with den options.
