So it’s come to this. Development outside of current projects has slowed down to the point that we’re discussing fast food joints opening up

It's proving to be the heart and soul of downtown SSL

Technically that's Salt Lake as everything north of the middle of 2100 South is SLC and everything south is South Salt Lake (at least until you get to around 700 E).

Here's some phots of a couple smaller, current projects:

I think this one was mentioned awhile back but I don't remember what it is. This ugly strip mall on the east side of State St, south of 1300 south is all fenced off. I presume to prepare for demolition. (taken Friday)

I hope it's being demoed. I've always hated the look of that thing. Anyone know if there's been an announcement yet of a proposed project for the site? Whatever it will be I hope they will go higher than three or four floors. I'd really like to start to see more residential density on State, especially within the Salt Lake City boundaries.

This isn't a Utah thing. Happens everywhere. San Antonians do the same thing for new chain restaurants

If that's the Coachman and it seems like it is that would be great! Somehow I remember a few on the forum thinking the Coachman was dead.

Hmm, I was just looking at Google Maps and now I'm beginning to wonder about Coachman. That fencing has been up for almost a year now.

I decided to re-create Wikipedia's 2012 image of downtown SLC this morning. Lighting conditions are obviously different but the angle should be really close.

Cool to get the shot and show the difference. I thought this change would be a little more dramatic, I can see 4 new high-rises obviously. Is the convention center hotel not visible from this angle?

Huh? The convention center hotel is very clearly visible on the far right.

111 and the Hyatt Regency have the biggest impact from this angle. 95 State and Liberty Sky are barely visible from there though. Astra's roofline when completed should be about level with 99 West's, due to the latter being significantly (~1900 ft) closer to the camera. Astra will make a much bigger impact from the east/south views.

The theatre tower and especially WQ Block C will make a HUGE difference when they get going. A 500+ footer would also be a game changer.

In other news, I am moving back to SLC from Denver! Would love to do another SSP meetup sometime this fall!

My bad, I saw that building but didn't realize the convention center was that far to the right from this perspective. I don't live there anymore but still follow development news to checkout downtown when I come back to visit. So not quite as familiar with every building as you all.

Yeah, those are the four I was counting and you can see the Astra crane sticking up in the back. Agreed the theater tower will make a big difference plus a 500' whenever that may happen. Congrats on moving back to SLC, sounds like you're excited to be heading back.

Fall Get-together

Atlas, I am glad you brought up getting together in the fall, because im looking forward to another meet- up this fall with the new construction coming together.

By the way, has anyone else noticed how the Liberty Sky is looking kinda short and squatty now that Astra is towering over it?
Cant wait until we have a 600 footer that will make Astra Tower look short and squatty. I just hope I'm still alive to see it!!!!

Ok I haven’t heard anything from The Soren Project, Main Street Twr, 600s Tower, or Regent Street twr in a really long time… Seeming like these projects are pretty much dead.
