Do many people come from out of town to go to those events and thus stay in a hotel? Anything that comes to Ottawa will also be in Toronto and Montreal. Sure there will be some, but my point is that it won't be a significant portion of their business plan.
Besides, who is to say that all of those events will relocate to downtown? The future of the CTC is very much uncertain at this point. While it could be demolished and redeveloped, I feel there is a good chance it will be repurposed. Either way, unless it is converted to residential, its new purpose will likely provide at least as much (if not more) demand for a hotel than a sprawling parking lot.
