Didn't these plans sort of indicate that it will be walled off with only certain connecting sections that are opened between the Lot A & B?

I’m pretty positive there must be a walk for fire separation since these are different addresses and units

I just noticed in the photograph they have already placed a bunch of foundation footings for something next to the exposed section of the parkade. In the plans the Lot A has lanes/buffer space that isn't currently included on the poured parkade floors. Most of the other columns also match up with wider spaces for the driving lanes. We should get some clues soon with any more foundation/rebar work they do next to the parkade.

They might be able to accomplish fire separation with overhead fire doors. Pacific Centre has a continuous garage under 2 blocks - but maybe requirements have changed since the 70s. The 777 Dunsmuir expansion is separate though.
I'm pretty sure my condo has fire doors separating the 2 sides of the block long continuous garage between our 2 towers (separate stratas). It would probably depend on the flexibility they need for shoppers and office workers, versus the more private residential parking spaces.

I'd guess concrete block walls for now that can be knocked out in the next phase. Slap in some water curtain sprinklers during phase 2 construction and they're good to go.

Only 8 more floors to go, plus roof for the tallest tower.

Developer, builders fined for falling construction debris near Burnaby's Gilmore SkyTrain station
WorkSafeBC has fined three builders, including Onni Contracting Ltd, more than 200K for ‘high-risk’ incidents of things falling from their under-construction condo towers at the Gilmore Place development.

A developer and two concrete forming contractors building condo towers in Burnaby’s Brentwood town centre have been fined more than $200,000 after “high-risk” incidents involving objects plummeting from their under-construction highrises, according to WorkSafeBC.

WorkSafe fined Onni Contracting Ltd. $90,154, Cap West Forming Ltd. $63,902 and gForm Enterprises Ltd. $46,688 for accidents at the Gilmore Place development, which will boast one of Canada’s tallest residential towers once it's finished.

On Dec. 22, 2022, a truck driver was hit and injured by a five-inch metal grinding disk that fell about 35 storeys from one tower, according to WorkSafeBC inspection reports obtained by the NOW.

Not long before that incident, a delivery worker at the same site had reported a close call after a four-inch bolt fell from the building above and landed next to him, the report said.

Then, on Jan. 16, a portion of deck scaffolding fell about 27 storeys from another tower, and a connector piece that ejected on impact hit a worker, according to another inspection report.

The report said the incident presented “a high risk of serious or fatal injury to a worker” and noted 19 objects had fallen from that building.

Onni was the prime contractor and Cap West the concrete formwork contractor during both of those incidents and both were fined.

“This employer’s construction site has a high number of incidents involving objects that have fallen from elevated heights that could have caused serious or fatal injuries,” said one report about Onni.

Onni was also the prime contractor at another Gilmore Place tower last August when a piece of plywood become dislodged and fell about 32 storeys onto an active SkyTrain track, according to another WorkSafe report.

GForm, the concrete formwork contractor on that project, was fined after that incident.

After the deck scaffolding mishap in January, WorkSafe inspected all three Gilmore Place towers under construction at the time and found problems at each one when it came to safety around falling objects, according to inspection reports.

Inspectors found “poor housekeeping and construction debris on unguarded leading edges that can inadvertently fall off the building” as well as ineffective processes for controlling work on the buildings’ outer edges.

The WorkSafe penalties were imposed in March.

Onni and Cap West have both requested the fines be reviewed.
Yikes! Watch out when you're taking your photos Lexus!

The construction firm here really has questionable quality assurance, eh? From falling debris, causing surrounding areas ground to shift, flooding and complete disruptions of Lougheed/Gilmore intersection. As in, normally I see such skyscraper constructions needing to block off one lane of traffic but this one is blocking off multiple. Causing quite a lot of traffic and people’s disruptions. Hopefully the end product in a year turns out great as it will bring much needed housing supplies. Though I kind of am afraid of the build quality given what we are witnessing now…

FWIW I think the multiple lane closures are due to the City of Burnaby doing infrastructure upgrades at the same time.

From my understanding of the developer, the construction of Onni projects is always a shitshow and they pretty much always end in lawsuits (usually between Onni and the subcontractors who they haven't paid...), but I've never heard anything particularly bad about the end products.

Can't say the same for Westbank properties...

Onni is indeed a — show indeed but Westbank is on another level 😂. Sorry I don’t have anything other than that.

I primarily take photos from Dawson these days. Seems like a safe spot. It’s totally crazy TBH.

I often feel water on a sunny day walking along the west side of Gilmore. Do you guys think I've got a case?

I imagine a lot of is it hiring the cheapest trades as well. They're often napping or smoking weed around Tandem.

(And it was definitely weed because I walked through the cloud)

Back of the napkin calculation:

Looks like Gilmore Place Tower 2 is currently 60 stories tall.

If we assume each floor is roughly the same height we get

60 floors / 64 floors = 93.75% built
215.8m final height * 93.75% = 202.3m

The Shangri-La is 200.86 m

I think we have a new tallest freestanding structure in Metro Vancouver! (I hesitate to call it a building just yet.)

The tallest free-standing structure in the entire British Columbia is now located in a secondary Town Centre (Brentwood) of a secondary suburb city (Burnaby).

The tallest building in Western Canada goes to Edmonton's Stantec Tower at 250.9m
The second, third and fourth tallest in Western Canada go to 3 towers all located in Calgary, Alberta. Go, Alberta, go!

Just to think that Vancouver used to have a couple of the British Empire and then Commonwealth's tallest buildings: tallest outside the US in the whole freaking world! How far it has fallen.

But the elevator overrun/parapet seems huge on it so 3-4 stories past the penthouse rooftop balcony? The sales brochures mention 9 feet/2.74m ceilings and the penthouse level is 14 feet/4.2m (?).

I took a look at the building model and doing rough lines along it I think above the penthouse rooftop balcony is 20m. Podium is like 20-25m.

The podium floors are also overheight then, maybe that cancels out? Regardless, I don't think anyone will actually count the building's height until it's officially finished.

I know I'm on the wrong forum for this, but I'd rather have a consistent dense and urban core, rather than a couple of extremely tall towers in the middle of a sea of parking lots or industrial sites. Vancouver is far from fallen, would you rather live in Downtown Edmonton/Calgary/Burnaby or Downtown Vancouver? Who cares how tall our buildings are.
