Development proposed for downtown Moncton includes a 30-storey residential tower
A public hearing will be held in July

- 288 units ranging from 1-3 bedroom.
- 258 interior and underground parking stalls. There will be no surface parking.
- The Harper Street facing portion of the complex will include 10 two storey townhomes.

I think all tomato gardeners should be banned from attending the July public meeting.

I'm hoping we hear something about St Bernard Square sooner rather than later. The developer paid a lot of money for the land and the city did a lot of underground upgrades. I think it's just a matter of time before we hear about their plans. Another 12-15 floor building would be great.

I like that orange/copper-looking band right around the 15-storey mark. That is just about the height of the Three Sisters.

That would be amazing...may need to make some alterations to Main St and it's in and outward flow, as that would increase traffic in that area exponentially. But I love how that would extend downtown...love how we are starting to go "up" now instead of "out".

Imagine the view from that top floor!

I don’t think that will be a problem with this development. I can’t see anything standing in its way that would be valid. It’s surrounded by empty lots, commercial and a few rentals homes. I don’t know why, but I have a feeling ICON development is ready to go with this project.

I don't think it would increase traffic that much. There's a grocery store next door and it's walkable to all of downtown. I suspect most of the people that would want to live in a place like this wouldn't be commuting by car.

Infinity by ICON will be a paradigm shift for downtown Moncton. Even more so than the Three Sisters are. There have been rumours that St. Bernard Square, Ashford/Downing Street and One Foundry (the fourth sister) have all retooled their plans to be 20(+) storeys, and this is the reason why.

Infinity has blown through the 20 storey barrier, and other developers are now scrambling to keep up. Within 5-7 years, Moncton will have at least five 20(+) storey buildings with a bunch of others in the 10-15 story range.

People who have been away from the city for 20 years will be rubbing their eyes in disbelief when they return home for a visit.

Don't know if they are available online. The GC was chosen awhile ago. The drawings have been sent to local contractors for budget pricing. Don't know if I can say how many floors, I was told 2 or 3 levels of underground parking, as for above ground, more then the three sisters, but less then the 30 floors that was recently announced. 😉

Thanks. Confirms recent rumours. Probably 20(+) storeys now.

I hope this pushes through. It would be a crowning glory for NB's biggest (and currently fastest growing) city.

Wow 30 storeys in amazing! It’ll become the tallest building in NB by a long shot. This will really change this end of the city and help extend the urban fabric of downtown. Massive game changer!

I’m also not surprised that the other developers have changed their plans. As I had said at some point recently, I think there is a market for several 20+ storey building AND several 10-20 storey building at the same time. Moncton is poised to be the fastest growing city in the country, certainly the fastest growing downtown.

Another thing I noticed is the retail along Main Street says “Main Street Grocery” on it. I’d love for there to be a proper urban grocery storey in this location.

Someone on reddit Moncton mentioned the possibility of dual 50s tower project incoming. I have a hard time believing this one, but can you imagine

50 would be awesome but for some reason I feel like it is both hard to believe and that it will stick up like a sore thumb. I'd rather we get the 30 first for real along with a handful 20+ for a nice well-distributed skyline but that's just my 2 cents so take it with a grain of salt lol

50+ buildings are probably more likely once we have sustained long term growth as opposed to riding on a relatively recent unprecedented boom

There is definitely no 50 floor buildings coming. That’s way too big, right now the tallest in Halifax is The Vüze at 36 floors and honestly I think 30 floors in Moncton is probably the top end of the spectrum for the city. Don’t get me wrong I’m excited for it and love it, but I would think other developers are probably looking between 18 - 22 floors. The exciting thing is that Downtown is going to be much better off with all these new apartments/condos etc.

Just between Infinity and Three sisters that will be 738 new units downtown. Which means you could have anywhere between 738 - 1600 new residents living in the downtown of the city.

Your right 50s would look out of place. I can't imagine anything over 40 in our lifetime, but the thought of getting multiple 25-35s units is very exciting.

I noticed this as well. Of course it's all just conceptual at this point but I wonder if this could be a fit for the Champlain Mall Sobeys to decamp. It's been rumoured forever and there are literal buckets in the aisles to catch leaking rainwater through the roof. They just renovated the Regis Street location but the mall store has been a dive for years and continues to deteriorate. I also remember reading some articles not too long about about a new Sobeys model that combined some stores at the base of large residential plazas. I believe there are already several in larger cities. This project would certainly fit.

Return of Pete's Frootique would be cool as well. I always stop when I'm in Halifax.

A couple of tidbits from other sources:

----

Expected height: 90 metres

Quote:
La tour devrait mesurer environ 90 mètres de hauteur. Elle sera plus basse que la tour Bell mais dépassera l'immeuble Assomption dans le centre-ville.
Source: https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/1989590/nouvel-edifice-amenagement-urbain-moncton

----

Expected cost: more than $70MM

Start date: "in a few weeks"

Source: https://www.acadienouvelle.com/actualite...struite-dans-le-centre-ville-de-moncton/

----

Reddit comment to be taken for what it's worth:

A client of mine told me there’s plans floating around for a pair 50 storey buildings, costing 75-90 million each, they’re just waiting on the green light from the powers that be to push it forward.

What a surprise, I did not think we would see something at 30 floors in Moncton. So there's that, but just wow!

However, this is NOT built yet, until the cranes are on site and the building permit is posted, nothing is set in stone. This is not the first time something very large has been planned on that lot.

It has not been to the PRAC, right? The NIMBYS are standing nearby as well.

As a fan of tall buildings and having seen some of the highest in the World, I must say that I'm excited to see the tallest building being built in Moncton, wait in New Brunswick!

I think by the sounds of it, they want to start working before they even get approval.. Acadie Nouvelle, saying plans are to start in a few weeks. If it is 90 metres, that’s only 9 Metres taller than assumption.
