I just realized that the main entrance is on the facade directly adjacent to the Salvation Army shelter. This is going to well with the out of towner's. Are hotel staff going to sweep up the needles out front on an hourly schedule?

I could be wrong but I think the entrance to the Hotel portion of this project is on York and the entrance to the residential part is on George next to the Salvation has you pointed out. So the out of towner will be spared but the residents will be greeted daily by the salvation army residents

With all the towers going up around this area, I'm hoping it's a matter of time that the shelter gets sold and converted to something else... this is prime real estate and does not make sense the way it is today.

A block away you have a Courtyard Marriot glorified motel with a massive undeveloped parking lot in one of the most premium locations imaginable. I wouldn't hold your breath

There are lots of empty lots. Some barely used. A Couple were for sale as the rate hikes hit last year.

East Market was a trail blazer and many of us said it would be the catalyst to turn around that literal East part of the market. It's still a nice looking building now surrounded by towers and things have never been worse.

Sadly in this city two hotel owners complaining more likely to get their calls answered than the hundreds of new residents.

Thanks for the pic Harley! Didn't realize that they demolished part of the middle of the structure as well. Still pretty close to a full retention.

Salvation Army will be building its new shelter in Vanier soon-ish. This one in the Market will still be owner by the Sally Anne, but won't be a shelter from what I understand.

With Rimap building 3 Marriotts, two of them in the Market, I hope the Courtyard will close and be redeveloped soon.

In the original render for this project it looked like a building was going to take the place of the Salvation Army at 171 George. Does anyone know what happened to that?

If you are referring to this image, the white boxes on either side of this project are just potential building massings. There has never been any proposal to replace the Salvation Army buildings that I'm aware of.

Welcome to the forum!

salvation Army is still planning to build it's Vanier Maga Shelter (which goes against City rules, but it's Vanier, so City doesn't care). The Booth Centre will no longer be a shelter from my understanding, but will continue to offer services to the homeless population and those suffering from addiction.

This one is really coming along! At this rate it should be making it's mark on the market skyline by mid-summer.

Really excited for this one, and surprised at how fast it's going up.

On the other hand, it's hard not to get sick at that back side of the new Marriott on Rideau

The George St facade is already up to the third floor. I'm really excited for this one to pull some of the weight off the Great Wall of Rideau, give a little more dimension to the market skyline.

Feels like that took a while.

Hope this ends up looking better than the AC.

This and the Andaz Extension will help animate and liven up that section of York.

Next up should be those 2 other empty plots (the rejected Hampton Inn and the Andaz Phase 2 Residences that seems stalled).
