I've been thinking about creating its own thread since Rimap bought the site, and now's the time.

I put in the info you stated for now BlueJay, but please provide sources if possible, otherwise I'll revert it back to approved and 116m.

Some background for posterity, this project was once part of Main+Main's 400 Albert however, they sold the site and tower plans for this, the complex's tallest tower, to Rimap of Montreal. Original thread (Main+Main's two towers are previous plans for this one) can be found here:

The source is the zoning table on page A-001 of the Architectural Plans that were submitted last week for the building permit. Exact height is 117.81m.

Good enough for me!

I couldn't be more excited about this one. Along with Dream Lebreton and Claridge East Flats, we are about to see very dramatic changes to the West side of The Great Clump. Might have to change the name to The Great Clump with a Wee Bump in three years.

We should edit the title to start with the name of the development, Renaissance Marriott Ottawa. I love when a building gets it's official name

How do we decide if we name it for the hotel or the condos/apartments? ArtHaus and The Slater, for example. They could just as easily have been Le Germain or the Alt.

The hotel is just a tenant in the building. If the building itself has a name, then I'd say go with that. At this point though, we probably don't know the building name, do we?. Wait and see?

I believe once they break the ground for this one, there will only be one large surface parking lot remaining downtown - 272 Queen @ Kent.

That one is a huge huge lot. I would love if they were able to figure out a mini-Dundas Square type of thing due to it's central proximity near Parliament. Would be awesome for Ottawa.

Very excited for this one to go up, it should make a decent impact of the west side of the skyline. If all goes well material wise, it will look like a nice building.

Oof...terrible spot for a mini-Dundas square! Such a thing cannot induce life in a soulless past century business district. If we ever get such a thing, it needs to be adjacent to some serious entertainment, residential, retail and transit. I see it as part of a new arena district on the flats perhaps.

I always thought Rideau and King Edward would be cool. I seem to remember Claridge proposing something that looked Dundas Square-ish where Beth Shalom was (now Trinity's shame on Rideau).

I don't necessarily see it as a Yonge-Dundas square, which is pretty overrated in my opinion, but I do think it could work very well as a public square, which is largely lacking in the CBD. It will be on significant transit and cross-town bike routes, so it does have that, and it is near a bunch of major hotels. I also see lots of opportunity to retrofit the ground floors of the surrounding buildings.

Maybe it wouldn't need to be the entire site, but if it is developed I would love to see a decent amount of quality public space there.

I would rather see the patch of beat up grass in front of the Supreme Court a minute's walk North made into a public square. That's a beautiful setting that is underutilized. I don't see that perma-shady dark 272 Queen St. lot surrounded by old concrete, glass, and brick ever being a magnet for the public, not to mention hotel guests in the area. The most it could ever be is a sad place for the remaining downtown public servants to eat their lunch on a bench, in my opinion.

I could see that, though it is less central than the Kent lot. Kent has way more people passing through on a regular basis.
