MK Thai Gourmet signage:

Very reminiscent of the former Starbucks signage:

The ICON developments sign is gone from the (next to) Staples property on Main Street. Hopefully it doesn't mean anything.

But there's an overall lack of activity on a few of these major downtown projects. Tomorrow being June 1st, I thought we'd see some of these buildings getting under way by now.

Hmmm. On May 15th they had a job add posted for a site superintendent with experience in high rise construction.

Well, that sounds promising!

The president of ICON hinted earlier this year that 2023 would be a busy year.........

I particularly like the bit about "high rise construction." The rumour floating around is about a 20 storey building.

Maybe this is one of the 20 floor projects that John Wishart was alluding to. It'd be nice to see some renders being released.

Drilling was done on this site as well as St. Bernard's square. If they both get under way this summer, wouldn't that be exciting for downtown Moncton!

Floor three is going up at the new police station but it’s built with steel rather than concrete?

I believe it is the mechanical floor. perhaps it doesn't have to be hardened into a bunker like the rest of the building.

The new RCMP building is more visible from the Main & Vaughan Harvey intersection than I thought it would be.

Three possible 20-storey buildings starting this year:
  1. St. Bernard's Square
  2. Harper St (Icon)
  3. Ashford (market) -> see below
According to what I was told just a few weeks ago, Ashford aims to start building on the new downtown street this year (September), but it's still up in the air because there's a dependency on the civic infrastructure. With a new farmer's market at its base, it would have 19 or 20 stories on top.

Apparently, it might even overtake the Assomption building as the tallest building. However, Assomption's storeys appear (to me) to be taller than modern residential storeys, so I don't know if this can be achieved without 24-25 floors.

Your information regarding Ashford is intriguing. I had heard something in the 14 storey range, but that info is a couple of years old.

I had also heard that the Harper Street and St. Bernard Square projects will likely be 20 storey as well.

And, although Lafford's One Foundry project (the "Fourth Sister") is still a few years away, the rumour is tat this will also be 20 storey.

Imagine a downtown Moncton with five 20 storey buildings and over a half dozen buildings in the 12-15 storey range.

This must be a pipe dream because wow 3 20-storey buildings? I'd honestly be happy with confirmation of even just 2 of them.

I would be extremely impressed and excited if any one of them can overtake the Assomption. Is it true that it's still tied with Brunswick Square over at Saint John as the highest buildings between the two cities?

Moncton's skyline would look so good with that amount of high-rise buildings.

Yes the Ashford building was supposed to be 14 floors, but taller floors so that it would be the same height as the Assomption building.

Their respective Wikipedia pages say both buildings are tied but this website’s database lists Brunswick Square’s height at 70.4m and Assumption Place at 77.7m and Assumption does have more floors.

Oh that's interesting. I wonder where the disparity in the data comes from.

Today I noticed patio furniture on a balcony at Ashford's new building on Highfield Street. I'm impressed with this developer in that they seem to bring their buildings to market in a timely manner. They are also making good progress on the Main & Lorentz building as well.

It bodes well for the Assomption land once they start that project.

It’s crazy how the 8 story white elephants on Lorentz, are not much bigger than the 6 floor new buildings going up across the street!

Yeah, exactly. Since that is the first of two buildings that Ashford are constructing there, it'll make for a nice little residential cluster.

Just looked up the buildings you're referring to. In what way are they white elephants? Just curious.

I just remember as a kid growing up in Riverview that’s what I heard people call them. This was in the late 90’s early 2000’s, I remember hearing that there was a lot of issues in the building with leaking, electrical problems and port maintenance. Who knows I was young at the time so it’s just a memory I have of them.

They also called the avenir center a white elephant so I think that's a lot of nimbys who use that word or phrase.
