You guys beat me to it but (finally) some windows installed on the lower levels! I think the black mullions are going to look really good combined with the light grey pre-cast.
It's a fairly basic project, but they did a good job adding just enough flair to make it somewhat interesting.
I agree. It's a bit like the rich guy funding the construction has seen lots of renderings for different buildings, and got used to seeing the wild distortion of perspective, subconsciously decided the stretched corner was a good look, and selected this design as his fave.

I think so too. That precast is not really doing it for me but the ratio of glazing is very high and the black mullions with hopefully a slight tint on the windows could make it look pretty good. The podium will definitely be a nicer materials and the balcony corner will give the tower some distinction.

On the other hand, the other new tower on Carling just the other side of the 417 was built so fast and are windows/cladding is going fast. Wouldn't surprise me if it was completed much earlier than this one.

Jerry has been on vacation for the last month, and Terry is taking paternity leave for four months when Jerry gets back next week, so they might only get three more windows installed this spring.

To me it all really depends on how they implement this stuff. The combination of dark great and wood(ish) panels looks unique and could give it a nice styling at street/podium level. As long as the glass on the tower portion is decent, it will look nice combined with the plain grey precast we see there so far.
What looked like larger bricks in the rendering have turned out to be leftover charcoal brick from one of the many Claridge Charcwhites. They have started the brick on the West side of the podium. Let's hope those faux-wood panels stand out enough to make this one unique....
Aaaaaand....the bait and switch has occurred . They have replaced the faux wood looking panels from the rendering for a much less interesting beige brick. Personally, I think it looks dumb to have those little pockets of different coloured brick instead of a different material. No pics yet, but I'll snap one next week when I'm back in the area.
The black mullions is now the only thing that is remotely redeeming about this project.
My thoughts when I saw the side of the taller tower from the 417. Charcoal brick with random beige bricks.
I absolutely despise this new "trend" of throwing in random beige & charcoal colours throughout the design. It looks so random and messy and makes the design not cohesive. I'd take a plain design over a messy one any day.
I have yet to notice this "trend" in other cities either, not sure why it keeps popping up in Ottawa but it needs to die now.
I am really disappointed in this one. The black window frames are nice but that's about it
Bonus pic of a "Born Again CharcWhite"! Much cleaner looking than the previous exterior finish but I would have loved if they tried something more daring/interesting colourwise.
Quite different from the renderings, for sure. A step down from what we were promised. That said, other than the patches of light brick, it looks pretty good to me. The dark windows and frames pop out on the light coloured façade, which is quite nice.
That reclad, begging for murals on each side and on the wavy balcony railings.
