My minor pet peeve is, once again, I had no idea this 'night event' was happening. I generally find out about things after they happen. I drove along the QED a few times during the day prior to the official start of tulip fest but had no idea of 'this' at night. I would've cycled over and checked it out.

Wrong chat forum but, where does one find out about these events?

lol, I understand that it was bustling, and I did go myself, but I had NO idea what the hell I was looking at.

A bunch of rental lights and speakers, and then a weird submerged compressed air system, all so that a very dramatic voiceover could describe ad nauseum how the HMCS Carleton was bombed and sunk, with very dramatic 'explosions' of compressed air from two air cannons in the water. ... what does this have to do with Tulips, Queen Victoria or even our history with the Netherlands and tuilps, I have no idea. People were confused and looking around at where the voiceover was coming from.

All this to replace the fireworks. I hope to God that this didn't cost the same amount, but the $10,000 hammer comment from Harley was probably the same here, but a $50,000 per shot of compressed air (of which there were about 6 shots over 10 minutes lol

When they said 'light show nightly' and then I saw the lights, I was expecting like a few smoke machines, and maybe a peacock-shaped fountain out in the water like projecting lights to music. The whole war theme and sounds of machine 🞵🞵🞵🞵 on a nice evening walk was a bit off putting.

Couldn't care less about the "show" itself, it's the atmosphere and the stroll before the show that was kinda cool, with the music, smoke, people and lights.

IMO it was 100x better than the fireworks, especially considering that it was there every night.

Are the Conservatives back in power? This has Harper written all over it.

How does it relate to the Tulip Festival or the Netherlands, maybe if the boat was sank during the liberation of the Netherlands. I have no idea, couldn't find any full story on Google.

Hopefully, the light show will be better next year.
