Podium looks taller than the new renderings to me (but likely due to the view from street level).

A ton of tension cables(?) being used… presumably to help the super-tall stay upright ;-).

Ignoring ground floor retail, Toronto could already have the lead in 150 metre residential skyscrapers in North America. That's with underground parking, lower slab to slab heights and few crowns and poles.

Regarding Sky Tower, anyone know when we can expect a decision on the height increase? Insertnamehere?

No idea on that one. I expect soonish, it's been a little bit since they submitted. Waiting on a staff report to council to support or reject it to know if we'll need an OLT appeal for it or not.

I wonder if they will go ahead with Skytower's increase even if it is approved. Unfortunately, There's relatively little interest in buildable densities in Toronto. The approved residential densities are already extreme. The debate will likely centre on height which shouldn't set off an alarms.

I forget where I saw the video but one of their sales reps said the building was designed and is engineered for the height 344.58m and they were just waiting for the green light from the city to proceed to that height.

The shade of tinted glass is looking quite retro 70s-80s there. I’m thinking Don Mills like.

Sam has recently revised the crown height of The One (adding 6.29 metres) so the final height if approved will be 344.59 metres.

A sales rep is a terrible source for unreleased developer intentions. I would also gather a tower's structural engineering isn't specific to a certain number of metres tall. In all likelihood, they will go ahead with the extension like just about every other approved extension in the city. It was meant more as a reminder that that its not planning that ultimately makes the decision on these extensions. I still believe that a investor frenzy is on the horizon and that may line up perfectly with the decision. (not that Pinnacle is as reliant on investment and pre-selling as other developers)

While curtain-wall manufacture is likely well underway I couldn't help pondering what some glazing colour differentiation between the CIBC twins might look like when Phase 2 is completed... so I scribbled a coppery Phase 2 that I think compliments Royal Bank Plaza... just a day dream though.

M3 at M City | 260.29m | 77s | Rogers Real Estate | IBI Group l u/c

Hard to keep track of all the “M”s in M City.

Right of centre below are M1 and M2 topped out with M3 (tallest in M City @ 77 storeys and 260.3 metres) rising in front of the twins. M3 is the 5th tallest tower under construction in Canada.

Bottom right in the photo is a glimpse of the excavation for M4 (@ 67 storeys and 215.6 metres). Apparently the sales centre is now being moved for M5 (@ 36 storeys) so that phase will be starting soon too.

Tim MacDonald

In sales now is M6 @ 57 storeys and the ‘swoop’ image released of this Hairi Pontarini (HPA) design looks almost exactly like Pinnacle One Yonge’s Phase 1 tower now complete... also designed by HPA. Maybe some copy and paste from a very busy architecture firm lol?

M6 designed by HPA

One Yonge Phase 1 'Prestige' also designed by HPA

The entire Rogers M City development (8 or 9 towers?):

The tallest of the 2 towers is just half built above the podium … so when complete there will be a nice peak near Spadina to break up the proliferation of 150 metre towers west of the core.

I find those towers just hideous. Perhaps even worst than a spandrel glass tower. The podium is okay. Belongs in a suburban City Centre than downtown Toronto.

The whole video wasn't about the sales of the structure, and he may not have even been a sales rep I don't recall.

And of course the structural engineering is a huge thing when talking about how tall a building can rise. The point is the tower has been designed with all of the engineering in place to grow to that height. Much easier to plan for that height before shovels hit the ground.

Sadly I have to agree. Would have even been better if it had been built surrounded by other buildings. Like that proposal to replace that older highrise up in the Yorkville area. Much less prominent there.

I thought I was going to hate them and the pattern. I think they turned out great though and the patterns seem intentional now and make the two towers blend in to one from certain angles.
