To those not from southern Ontario, here's a map showing Niagara's location and a police station map which basically corresponds with the municipalities most connected to each other
Welland is seen as the least desirable municipality in Niagara. It was formerly a mini Hamilton employing thousands in manufacturing, until
most of the factories shut down and manufacturing jobs disappeared.
Now they're mass producing housing, and infills, and some new apartments/condos are popping up so it's growing like crazy.
The population was 44k in 1971. Didn't reach 50k until 2006 and stagnated until 2011.
It grew to 55,750 by 2021, and currently is around 58k in 2023.
Almost 1000 units of housing were built in 2022!
