That DA permit is not for the corner of 3rd & Congress. It's for the building next to the parking lot at the corner.

Pretty sure that's for the Austin Transit Partnership office going in that building.

The Google Fiber space? Surprised it wasn’t a part of the sale.

I was at an event downtown presenting my models and got into a conversation with a couple of guys that work for the company that now owns this plot and is working on developing it.

They told me a ballpark figure of 1,100 ft.

We may see a day when Austin has the tallest building outside of NYC or Chicago. Crazy!

I was yelled at for even mentioning this on another thread but as I said, another possible supertall besides what was proposed by Wilson... Just because there is nothing going on with city permits does not mean that there is nothing in the works behind the scenes...

Still.. not expecting to hear anything soon but exciting about the possibility..

I've also heard this mentioned, but no details or timeline yet. It's a group out of NY spearheading the project.

Cannot find the thread or last post regarding this site...but, 3rd & Congress (the parcels of land formerly owned by World Class and then, I believe, Related Companies) is on the market. They border The Austonian on the west and north sides of that block.

There was brief discussion of the possibility of a ~90 story tower on this site. Obviously, that was before COVID.

It's cancelled since the original developer is selling the site and there is no approved site plan to be part of the sale. If another project gets proposed, it will be a new project.

I feel that it is a bit disingenuous to call a project "cancelled" considering there was never anything officially proposed for that site. Can't quite cancel something that never existed. If I'm not mistaken, nothing ever went before any city organization, board, committee or council for this site.

This should be referred to as a past "Vision."

How about "vision cancelled" since "vision" can be anything from "plans to build" or "never built"?

How about "Unrealized Vision"?

I agree...you can't "cancel" something that never existed. The 90-story, 1100' "vision" was said in passing at some event. Nothing was ever formal. Thus, there were no "plans" and would not qualify has "never built."

Anyone have full access?

Sites begging to become high-rises are in limbo. A buyer has been identified for the properties, but after a scheduled March 31 closing date came and passed, the future of the deal is murky.

There's nothing positive in that article. The developers/buyers of the site are using the City's development bonus changes as a reason to back out of their deal to purchase the site. They are citing the now lack of site entitlments as the reason.

Were they wanting to/expecting to go higher than 1200'? I think that is the new, proposed density bonus maximum.

I love that whoever (or whatever AI) created that render just slapped the top of Waterline onto the tower.
