I don’t remember United but I do remember AC flying the route with the E195 around 2008-09ish!

People need to remember these were the days before Toronto (or Montreal) were built as real hubs. Pearson and Air Canada also were going through growing pains with T1.

Today, Pearson is a real hub, Air Canada pays 0 landing fee's there and they have multiple US flight banks.

Even something like Denver had 1 flight a day from Toronto in 2005. Today its 4. UA and AC would rather just connect you in Toronto if you are going to the west Coast.

Its harder today to compete against Toronto's hub than it was 15-20 years ago.

And this is why I am hoping for Porter to truly expand out of YOW to places like DEN down the line. With AF here now that can fulfill my personal needs for access to Europe and the Middle East, all that’s left is Porter and their US growth out of YOW so that I can officially bid AC a heart filled goodbye with best wishes to them as they continue to cater to their hubs and their true focus city, YYC.

Looks like Air Canada is pulling widebody service on YOW-YVR during the peak summer. Last day the 789 is scheduled is June 22 before returning on September 5 until the winter schedule begins at the end of October.

Out of curiosity I checked the AC app for the 77L tomorrow and YVR-YOW is fully booked in PY (24 seats) and 36/40 booked in J. The return YOW-YVR is 23/24 booked in PY and 35/40 booked in J. Good to see the premium demand is there at least.

That’s unfortunate about YVR. Guess that means we won’t see side-by-side widebodies at the terminal until September. Given it’s for the peak of the summer, it must mean there’s a widebodies shortage as the cheapest Y fare on the flight that is now a 7M8 is $375, with some days over $700 in the ensuing weeks after the switch. Means that MAX is already full most days, which points to lack of capacity vs actual demand.

On the bright side, it’ll help with PD getting YOW-YVR up and running.

Haven't done it recently but surprised you can find a decent price on a resort. Usually the prices I find are the same as the packages with flights. To Domincian 1 bag per couple should be plenty. Leave the jackets in the car.

Was poking through the AC winter schedule and noticed a couple interesting ones I haven't seen mentioned here.

YOW-YHZ is scheduled at 5x (!!) daily all on CR9s.
YOW-YWG is 2x daily on CR9s
YOW-EWR up to 3x daily on CRAs, along with 3x daily on UA
YOW-YQB daily on a CRA
YOW-DCA up to 2x daily on a CRA, along with 3x daily YOW-IAD on UA

As previously mentioned here, YEG is now year-round with 1x daily 223. Despite YYC being 1x daily on a 223 this summer, it's scheduled for 2x daily on a 7M8 in the winter. And YOW-YVR is still showing 2x daily on a 320.

While, in the past AC's schedule was fairly accurate from today's date into the Winter, I do believe anything past Labour Day is a placeholder for AC right now.

They are doing a bunch of tinkering even in the short term. Seems like a daily YYZ rotation that was previously on Jazz, is now on Rouge in June (an early YOW depature, and late YYZ departure).

YQB seems to now be X67 (so no flights on Sat & Sun). I feel like AC reinstated this flight just to stick it to Porter, but Porter never started the route.

I know YEG is in the timetable, but I can't find it bookable on AC's site after July 2. Perhaps another non hub to non hub route AC is eliminating.

Somehow the A220 to YHZ in July & Aug remains, as does the A320 to YWG.

I hope DCA can come back to 2x daily, even 12x weekly, but I am not sure that will hold. I am happy to even have the route... as it is another non hub to hub route for AC.

Edit: Looking back at YEG - I can still find it, just not daily. (Maybe a glitch on my side or user error!)

Interesting. Maybe not enough demand to warrant a 3rd daily YVR-YHZ flight but enough that 2x MAX wasn't gonna cut it? It sucks that YOW gets the short-end of that stick.
