It appears that the CCDC opted to redesign the final submission to complete the project before the urban renewal area/district is terminated in 2026.

me either. the design is not as unique as the original proposal, and i prefer they go twice as high and half as wide to protect viewing corridors.

Beginning construction in 2023 with plans to become operational by 2024, and Idaho will feature one 12 story tower and one 8 story tower, providing over 150,000 square feet of new class A office and retail spaces.

The project will also feature 126 multifamily housing units, over 400 parking spaces, and modern amenities.

Boise's Rise: Small Big City in the Convention Landscape

Boise does incredibly well within the smaller to midsize group-event segment. However, the lack of a large convention hotel results in lost business opportunities among the larger convention groups. Moreover, 300-to-400-attendee groups generally require room blocks at multiple hotels due to the lack of a large convention hotel, which poses an additional challenge for winning more business. Market participants reported that a 600+-room convention hotel would put Boise on the map for many larger conventions that it currently has to turn away.

Nonetheless, the convention center benefits from a strong demand base and its location in Idaho’s state capital. Moreover, with convention business being slow to resume in major Pacific Northwest destinations following the COVID-19 pandemic, Boise has benefited from groups seeking an alternative to major regional convention markets such as Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco. The city has recorded a notable uptick of first-time conventions and group events to the market in the post-COVID-shutdown period since 2020.

Boise’s Emerging Tech Era and Bright Outlook
Even before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, inbound business migration for tech companies from West Coast cities was already a significant component of Boise’s growth outlook. This trend accelerated following the pandemic due to the Treasure Valley’s business-friendly climate, affordable living conditions, and land available for development. Additionally, continued remote work policies for tech companies led to a rise in relocations for tech workers to Boise. Most recently, the large-scale expansion of Micron Technology’s headquarters by 2030 is an additional key aspect of Boise’s thriving future in the tech world. This development alone is anticipated to create an estimated 17,000 new jobs.

from what i've heard:

the convention center has been begging for a 400+ room hotel for years to accommodate larger single conventions. the new proposal will only have 271 rooms within two dual brands, so still far below what they need.

they'd probably need to double the size to 600 rooms in order to provide the kind of room the convention center is looking for without the hotel dedicating all available rooms to one group of conventioneers.

it would be nice if the proposal did double in size. that'd be a great location for a new tallest, and a great location for a convention center hotel. the only better location is if Hotel 43 were razed and a new, larger convention center hotel constructed on that lot with a bridge connecting it to the center, but that's probably highly unlikely.

For the Ovation, it appears the status is the same on the city website as it was a few months ago.

Had some family in town and we took them down to the zoo. They commented on how impressed they were with all the cranes/construction going on in downtown Boise. Told them there are still a few more towers that are suppose to break ground too.

Good news everyone! Google Earth finally updated downtown Boise! It definitely is not "new-new" as evident that Hotel Renegade is depicted as a dirt hole, I am guessing the globe view is from June 2022. What is now included is 11th and Idaho and Cherie Buckner-Webb Park, a completed JUMP and Simplot headquarters, all of the apartments that have popped up along and near Myrtle Street, and development around the connector (St Luke's on 25th). BSU looks much more filled out, with the Museum on Capitol Blvd, some lecture halls, and student living now included. Downtown Meridian as well as development around i-84 are also now updated. Very exciting considering Google Earth has not been updated since 2017 or so.
