I am not the venerable Roderick . I never met him but know that we are both fifth generation descendants of the same Laheys that immigrated to this lovely spot.Perhaps I could get some charcoal brick samples.

Vanier will look completely different in two years. One of the densest parts of the city, no rapid transit, ever.

The un-rapid transit is about to get a lot worse with vehicle electrification, unless there is a commensurate increase in frequency. And frequency also demands that more be done to give these evil electric buses the priority they need in lanes and intersections to keep them actually frequent, and not infrequent but bunched.

Curious why you say that... is it because electric buses we are procuring are all 40 footers (lower capacity?)

Yup. They are very poorly suited to the kinds of patterns of transit usage you see on the urban main routes.

These ones that are already in service in OC Transpo's fleet have awful interior layouts, and crush-load even easier than the existing diesels, and much more than the "old" hybrid 40-footers.

These buses were built to shuttle tourists from the hotel to the casino.

So nothing to do with them being electric. It's the #1 selling bus design on the continent, regardless of propulsion chosen.

Nope, not about the electricity, all about the evil interior layout and complete unfitness for urban routes.

I honestly don't care much for these, but having another 100m+ tower is good for the area and downtown overall so... let it be done with.

The prominence of the tallest tower here will be very little on the skyline due to the ridge across the river. We like to build our tallest buildings in gullies and depressions here in Ottawa for the most part. The Great Clump continues....

Personally, I really like the design. It's not earth shattering, but it's clean and modern. Good contrast to the mostly concrete towers of Vanier. Though, some colour accents would be even better.

The design does absolutely nothing for me. It looks straight out out of the 1970s. I hope to be pleasantly surprised by the final product, but I'm not crossing my fingers. I wonder how long it will be before they start on the 2nd and 3rd towers. It would be a shame to have a Westgate situation here with just one ugly stump tower for many years. I don't like the look of this one (or Westgate), but I do want to see density in these areas.

I think, I hope, it will be a case of the final product being nicer than the rendering. At least the entire podium will be built in one shot (from what I ca tell), so we won't have an empty field or parking lot to look at for years.

That's where you are wrong or that is to say actually right in your critiscm. If this layout is wrong but our only electric choice we should have though more carefully about choosing it to form the backbone of our fleet.

I really wish they stuck with the original renderings for this one in particular. It's located in a such a prominent spot, its a real shame (but not a surprise) that they did the ol'Ottawa bait and switch.

Does anyone know if the development will also update the road network to include bike lanes? Still furious that the ones down the road don't even connect to the Canal
