Kim Foxx Won't Run

Block Club: Kim Foxx To Announce She Won’t Run For Reelection, Reports Say

Quote:
Foxx has been backed by progressive activists who saw her leadership as a turning point for the prosecutor's office. But she's also faced intense criticism as crime has surged in Chicago.

^ I mean, I want to be pleased by this news.....

But if the recent mayoral election is any indication, we'll probably just end up with someone even worse than Foxx.

If that's even possible.

I think that the increased violence the city has been enduring will get the voters to consider someone who will have more common sense when it comes to crime. A centrist candidate should have a much better shot, considering many voters are now going to be voting with the context of a crime surge at the forefront of their minds, as compared to 2020 or 2016 when justice system reform was more the topic of choice. Remember, the entire county votes here, not just the city. I think the suburbs will help swing the vote in favor of a 'law and order' candidate.

Looks like we dodged a bullet with Vallas. This is the type of douche move that I don't want anywhere in or around city hall.

https://abc7chicago.com/chicago-mayo...kers/13189855/

............And as much as the knucklehead teens are somehow being charged to Johnson's ledger, lets not forget that the guy was not even major yet. I did not vote for the guy but I believe in fairness. Give the guy a chance. Did not like his answer in response to the knuckleheads?? Wanted him to demonize them all and give lip service to the law and order spiel that we are all so used to hearing? Well count me in the minority -- I liked his answer. The guy said, and I paraphrase... "it is a false choice to demonize kids or choose to support them - it does not have to be an either or proposition... that kids can be recognized as having value and self worth, while at the same time not condoning their actions".

Pretty well said if you ask me. Now lets give him time to put his administration in place and lets see what HE does... not what the prior administration did.

But as for Vallas, his true character is being revealed... and it aint purdy. Don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out!! Does it sound like this struck a nerve with me? Absofrickenlutely!! I am a huge believer in paying my debts and I always ALWAYS go above and beyond to pay people handsomely that work for me. I believe it is my obligation and a sign of good character to honor those that busts their humps for me or my business/firm. Even in the lean, early years, many times I made sure to pay them before I would pay myself. Count me disappointed in Vallas and glad the citizenry saw through him and did not elect him.

As for Kim Foxx, so glad that lady is gone. I know her but never liked her... and never liked what she did to that office and the citizens of Chicago. She was much too soft on crime and turned a once proud office into a virtual laughing stock. Good riddence!! You can turn your key card in and join Vallas on the way out!!

Just found out today DPD’s Maurice Cox is being pushed out by the administration change. That’s really too bad, Maurice’s approach to neighborhood development was one of the bright spots of Lori’s 4 years.

How did you find that out? He just announced his transition team. It seems that decision wouldn't be made yet.

Somebody commented about this in the public transit thread, but I'm definitely excited that Kam Buckner is a co-chair on Johnson's transportation committee.

Ex-Bull Joakim Noah launches new violence-prevention program

Innovative idea from a (seemingly) awesome dude. Hopefully the mayor-elect and the CPD are reaching out to be involved.

Quote:
So it’s no surprise that Noah, who was named a Bulls ambassador in 2021, announced that he was launching the One City Basketball League in Chicago this month in collaboration with 28 violence-prevention groups.

The program is for men ages 16 to 25 living in the West and South sides of the city and will provide financial incentives for players, as well as off-the-court programs and job opportunities.

i cant imagine how MCs vision for equitable development differs from what Johnson wants to also achieve.

I think assuming Johnson has an actual vision in place is the first mistake

I think assuming he's gonna push Maurice Cox out is a mistake. What is this speculation based on?

Center court? Early appointments show Johnson may turn out to be a pragmatic progressive

Quote:
So far, Johnson has made four key appointments: Rich Guidice as the all-important chief-of-staff; state Sen. Cristina Pacione-Zayas as Guidice’s deputy; John Roberson as chief operating officer; and Fred Waller as interim Chicago Police superintendent.

The mayor-elect has also asked most of Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s department heads and agency chiefs to stay on, at least for a few months, saying he is not ready to clean house.

It's not speculation, I cannot mention my source, but expect the formal announcement to be forthcoming.

Crain's is also reporting Rosa is taking over the Zoning Committee, so yeah, I have some concerns on the development front. I don't trust Rosa at all to be pragmatic with regard to development decisions and none of this should be a surprise.

At least Lincoln Yards, the 78 and much of the 27th ward's Fulton Market-River West is already entitled.

Time will tell, I'm continuing to keep an open mind and remain hopeful that this will be how he governs in the end. I do like that his outreach is broadly across the spectrum, this is a really good start and hope collaboration rules the day over ideological purity.

At least Rosa is only one person, but yeah, I think this guarantees the 27th ward to be the big sponge soaking up development demand for the foreseeable future. So, the silver lining can still be a good thing and I'd be willing to bet that Burnett will continue to push through projects not yet entitled.

The 78 and Lincoln Yards though might have a harder uphill climb if they want to amend anything in the future. Both projects were office heavy when planned, and it's obvious there is no longer a market to execute that unless we land a pair of big corporate relocations wanting a urban campus environment. LY is now entirely in Waguespack's ward, who rallied against it from the beginning and has historically not been all that favorable to density.

As far as other scattered neighborhood projects, the jury is going to be out on that one for a bit. I imagine the affordable requirements with zoning changes is likely to increase further and that will simply make projects not pencil out unless there is some give on allowing a lot more density or finding public subsidy. Fingers crossed it triggers a wave of more neighborhood density, I suppose that's best we can hope for.

I don't see a problem. The 78 is already entitled for 10,000 dwelling units. LY is entitled for 6,000. So far, both developments have built a whopping 0 dwelling units combined.

If office isn't feasible, they have all the entitlements they need to build a forest of residential towers or midrises.
