13 & 14 can also be used for transborder on Saturdays if the need ever arises. The glass partition between the transborder and domestic/international areas of the terminal at gate 13 is movable and there's another one that is stowed beside the gate 14 door.

Anything 11 and above can be used for international departures, while 1-15 can handle international arrivals. Also, 13 can be used for transborder departures without the need to move that wall as there's a sterile corridor connecting 11, 12 & 13. As such 11 & 12 can be used for domestic too.

day's departure count: 70, including 0 sun flights

F8 YOW-YVR cut for the winter. Means YYC & YHZ will be the only two winter domestic routes out of YOW - 2x weekly each. SFB and MCO are showing 4x weekly each and CUN 3x weekly.

Today’s departure count: 60, including 2 sun flights

Today’s cancellation count (so far): 0

I wonder if YOW would ever repurpose the second floor outside of the terminal area. The one that used to be where you would go down the escalator for security. It's kind of just empty space at the moment outside of the exit doors to go down to baggage.

That's becoming a big food court. It would have been finished by now if the pandemic wouldn't have happened. The airport authority put it on hold mid construction due to costs during the pandemic when they weren't making any money because of the limited amount of flights.

Reading the news/info from the YOW annual public meeting was really interesting: https://yow.ca/en/corporate/media-centre/press-releases/2023-annual-public-meeting-formal-remarks

Highlights: cargo has grown substantially as 5T alone now haul 30,000 metric tonnes annually up north.

We continue to work with Germain Hotels to find a way to move the Alt Hotel Ottawa Airport project forward. This project is a vital element, though not the only one, in our quest to become a hub airport that serves more connecting traffic as opposed to the 97% origin and destination traffic we currently serve. Airport-connected hotels are highly desirable and expected of a world-class hub airport.

We also continue to work with the Mayor and City Council to explore opportunities to assist Y-O-W in the development of new international routes. I think we all recognize the importance of international air connectivity to our City’s economy by providing enhanced access for business travellers and inbound tourists alike.
97% O&D in 2022. In pre-2020 it was in the 94% range. With PD connecting traffic over YOW, this will fall. For the first time ever, they talk about building a hub at YOW. It shows they’re working hard on getting PD to have a true hub operating at YOW vs a large focus city. Without a hub, the likes of SFO, LAX and PHX aren’t feasible on O&D alone.

It's very good they are still trying to get the hotel done. And that focus on being a hub is huge too. Porter probably appreciates that YOW is trying to work with it after their difficulties trying to work on YTZ.

Ahhh gotcha! Yeah inside the terminal there was supposed to be a La Bottega/more food, but I meant the area when you leave the terminal after arriving, just before you go downstairs to claim baggage. Unless I'm blind lol

Another thing to watch for is a redesigned website early in 2024. A new logo and branding for the airport would be great too. The current logo is definitely very 1990s.

The info sheet somewhat contradicts the speech as it says total cargo was 30,000 tonnes, not just 5T, and it’s on par with 2019.

When will we see more E2 service at YOW from Porter? Is it mainly pending the completion of the hangar, training more pilots, or both/neither?

I guess you are referring to the space at the landing of the old pre-security escalators? I've been wondering what they will do with that area too.

They definitely need more pilots for E2 service, they were struggling quite a bit when they launched their new service. But yeah, I think as YOW commits more with Porter as their hub, the more service we'll see because Porter still says more routes to come.

I don't think there is really much they can do there now as the renovations have made that space into a deadzone.

The back of the new shops are in that area now and the only people who would walk that way on level 2 would be the folks taking the express exit for the car park or US connections.

14, 23, 24, and 11 are new shops. 11 specifically is No Boundaries that I posted above.

Porter will be announcing “shortly” YOW-YVR starting July 26! Stay tune for official announcement.

Giveth and taketh. So we lose a cheap (Flair) somewhat unreliable YVR option for another expensive and arguably the most pleasant option.

Here’s the news release on YOW-YVR. Didn’t expect this to be announced so soon!

And this is impressive too:

Quote:
The scheduled service will connect with Charlottetown, Halifax, Moncton, New York, Toronto-Pearson, Toronto-City and Thunder Bay through Ottawa.
So all YOW destinations except BOS will be able to connect to the YVR flight.

YVR-YOW 0745-1603
YOW-YVR 1800-1937

And they're far from done at YOW:

Quote:
Kevin Jackson, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, Porter Airlines. "We will continue building our presence in YOW and providing a superior level of service and travel options for economy travellers."

I doubt Flair's stopping YOW-YVR outright, but going summer seasonal. It's like YOW-YEG. They're actually increasing capacity this summer with an extra weekly flight on the route, but ending it at the end of October...if it was being cut permanently vs going seasonal, it wouldn't make any sense for them to increase capacity ahead of it being cut outright.

Today's departure count: 70

Today's cancellation count (so far): 0
