This is looking more and more prominent from the Alder Planetarium view, can't believe there's over 15 stories left!

the only thing that would have made the last shot better is if there was a skateboarder doing a jump in it.

I'm so glad this building was able to get built. It was a rocky road for sure, but worth the wait. It will be a beautiful addition to the skyline.

I feel like this might've looked a bit better if they squared off the exterior finish at the floor plates to make it flush with the windows on that rounded corner on Michigan Ave. That rounded corner where the windows are flat but the floor plates are curved somewhat clashes. It kinda breaks up what is otherwise a very smooth and slick facade. It's a pretty inconsequential detail though and really is only noticeable up close. Minor gripes aside, looking very nice.

Agreed. The net effect is still a curve, it just looks a little janky and not as refined as it could have been. But won't ruin the design by any measure.

This thing is going up pretty damn fast. Faster than I expected. I wanna say that we might be seeing it top out towards the end of July perhaps...

From this gorgeous spring morning.

Will us Chicago scraper-nerds ever get tired of this view of the burgeoning south loop skyline?

It's exciting to know we could get two more high rises in this picture in the near future! NEMA 2 and the Park Michigan's location.

Then the rain clouds came rolling through as the morning got a lot less gorgeous.

But at least the south loop skyline still looked great!

Great shot - the core looks to be at about 62-63 floors, so still 10 to go!

5/3

A few from this morning. It's starting to get noticibally wider near the top, especially in the nearer, 3/4 shot.

Are they going to attempt to finish this without another crane jump? It seems tall enough where they should have done it already.

I think they need another one for sure. The last time they jumped the crane, the cab looked about even with the top of the core. Which - from my vantage point - is where it is now.

Yeah. . . based upon my vantage point on Randolph Street this is going to need a crane jump soon. . .

I mocked up a couple diagrams for a twitter thread showing how the building widens as it increases in height.

In the first, you can see how the NE corner columns "step out" a few inches compared to the one below (magenta lines) relative to the grid lines. Whereas the next column stack is perfectly alighted (green dots) with the grid line.

For this one, I overlaid two floor plates - one lower floor and one upper. I turned the opacity of the upper floor down and you can see how the rounded corners stay in alignment while the pointed corners pivot outwards while elongating the curved radius of the curtain wall
