I'm watching the green zip waterproofing slowly being hidden by the dark gray siding.... oddly, I wish the green would stay! Added a nice splash of colour from my view

So not all-white as it looks in some renders. A splash of Garnet to go with the Gray would be appropriate. Go-GG-Go

The colour combo and seemingly extra-chaotic barcode is really jarring.

The barcode having no observable pattern, and no 'rules' about where and when the blue spandrels show up is really driving me crazy the longer I look at it.

The single window on the river side, surrounding with the double-width blue? Hate it.
The louvre on the courtyard side uppermost level? Hate Hate it.
The nice regular strips of double-height stripes on the left hand side of the courtyard elevation is refreshing, but then its...off-centred near the middle of the elevation, and then doesn't carry to grade. Ughhhhhhhh
Hopefully this is a neuroscience facility because we're gonna need it just walking up to enter.

You know what would have been fun is like, DNA code, or some sort of diagonal cascading density like a dot matrix, or just stripes (vertical but also horizontal could have been fun). This just looks like someone spilled cheerios on their computer and it outputted windows and blue spandrels.

Edit: OH and the contrasting curtain wall warts, both in colour and pattern. Hate it. Are the curtain wall spandrels supposed to match the sheet metal? Is there going to be a big re-peeling of the blue sheet metal panels, revealing a different colour underneath? Because it sure feels like someone f*cked up on the colour choice.

Redeeming qualities: The shape of the building is nice, both floor-to-floor and in plan.

Edit again: If you blur your eyes, it looks a bit better and you can see what they were going for here.

The part I don't like about it is that it's F&#$ing ugly as F#$K.

The charcoal brick sections are extremely obnoxious to me (surpised, anyone?

). They are a really weird juxtaposition and looked tacked on. There is no flow between the charcoal and whatever the hell is going on with the rest of this....thing.

The original design looks like the new civic hospital was a copy paste from it and the as built looks like someone slashed the building scope in half....and asked for more barcodes...

Massive disappointed all around.

For me the worse part is that the original building had an interesting frontage on Lees. Now it just looks like the a blank side. There's no obvious entrance (like seriously, where are the entrances?).

The university budget for 2023-2024 says that it is costing $130,820, 000 to build and equip this building.

And yet they have spent 130,800,000 dollars on this project.

My guess is that the university has focused on spending the money they raised with the following priorities.

1) acquiring the best science/medical equipment that they can get. As a former science student I can appreciate this.

2) making the building energy efficient in this time of climate concern.

3) spending money on the aesthetics of the building came in third.

I wish developers and institutions would present the most basic version of the project to the public from the get-go instead of starting with a nice design and then value engineering it. It's fine that they have other priorities, just don't give us false hope on design.

The added trees and Lights along the MUP will be a nice plus but damn I wish OttawaU would take a look at what Carleton is coming up with in terms of design because this isnt it .
